Just for clarification.... [So tell me now If this ain't love then how do we get out? 'Cause I don't know] Somebody has told him that he never loved her. He's saying if I don't love her, then why do I still care about her? |

I took a very literal interpretation as a love song. I don't think it is the only interpretation, I just thought I would share what this song means to me. [It kills me not to know this but I've all but just forgotten What the color of her eyes were and her scars or how she got them As the telling signs of age rain down, a single tear is dropping Through the valleys of an aging face that this world has forgotten] He's reminiscing on the girl he hurt so many years ago. He is the one crying. He is the one the world has forgotten because he has sealed himself off from the world. [There is no reconciliation that will put me in my place And there is no time like the present to drink these draining seconds But seldom do these words ring true when I'm constantly failing you Like walls that we just can't break through until we disappear] No matter how hard he tries, he can't get over her/that period of his life. He toys with thoughts of suicide. [So tell me now If this ain't love then how do we get out? 'Cause I don't know] He knows he loves her, he just doesn't know how to get over her. [That's when she said, "I don't hate you boy I just want to save you while there's still something left to save" That's when I told her, "I love you girl But I'm not the answer for the questions that you still have"] Memories of his last conversation with her. Possibly, depending on how you want to interpret it, memories of many conversations he had with her before he literally hurt her i.e. beat her. [And the day pressed on like crushing weights for no man does it ever wait Like memories of dying days that deafen us like hurricanes Bathed in flames we held the brand uncurled the fingers in your hand Pressed into the flesh like sand, now do you understand?] Obviously, time passing without her love sucks. I'm assuming he's burning himself with a vehicle cigarette lighter as self-mutilation. [One thousand miles away, there's nothing left to say But so much left that I don't know We never had a choice, this world is too much noise It takes me under, it takes me under once again] He's far away from her now, and he's feeling confused. He feels so overwhelmed that he returns to alcohol/drugs. |

| Or he was saying it's ironic that it is erotic to see them in thongs rather than naked...but hey, whatever. | |

| Slightly different from Leona Lewis' version, but I love it. :) | |

| I think it's better than the original. But then again, I'm not a big fan of Taylor Swift. This was one of the few songs I liked by her, though. | |

I'm not even sure if *I* believe this interpretation. But here goes nothing... *pause for pun* It's about the girl that broke his heart. She's telling people that she wants him back, and in the song he's telling her that it's too late. She had her chance, and even though he wants her back, he knows he could never trust her again because she broke his heart. |
