Could this be about stim use (like coke?) it's my official stims song (i dont do coke though, just rail concerta, but that is neither here nor there) anyway, there are alot of little things that make me think of stim use "I guess every superhero need his theme music" >you feel like a superhero in some ways on stims. like your up here and everyone else is down there (that works better in person so i can do the hand gestures, but i think you'll get the idea) "No one man should have all that power" >you feel powerful, in a way "The clock's tickin' i just count the hours" >Time is slower, also many nights are sleepless and you're left staring at the clock counting the hours "prison's open" >probably more of a political reference here, but could go to jail for coke "Goodnight cruel world, i'll see you in the mornin'" >using stims to escape the cruel world for a night, but he'll have to go back to it in the morning "This is way too much, i need a moment" >Thats a feeling you can get from stims, or alot of other things, but again it could be about stims "I just needed time alone, with my own thoughts Got treasures in my mind, but couldn't open up my own vault" >sometimes you get lost in your thoughts, but your thinking so fast you cant really elaborate on your thoughts and make them into an intelligent idea, but it is just these things bouncing around your brain. I was drinkin' earlier, now I'm drivin'" >talking about recklessness from the drug "i got the power to make your life so exciting" >from the perspective of the drug, whatever it may be. stims make you feel interesting, interested, exciting, and excited This is just my opinion, i am not saying that Kanye West does any drugs. Just how i interpret certain parts of the song. just occured to me to explain that when i say stim(s) i am abbreviating for stimulants, a type of drug including cocaine, methamphetamine, amphetamine, methylphenidate, and many others. some legal, some not. |

"your friends don't dance, and if they don't dance then they're no friends of mine" doesn't want to have anything to do with someone because he or she doesn't express thought or emotion or whatever the speaker expresses like the speaker expresses. just thought that was weird. |

To me that speaks more of self-inflicted pain in the name of religion and "Compassion's a cage" meaning to have so much "Compassion" (somewhat of a euphemism) for a religion (probably Christianity because of the pain inflicted on Jesus before his death) that they inflict pain upon themselves it is a cage in a way making it hard to do normal things like get a job or have friends. |

i think this is about the vietnam war like ericdawingnut said broken arrow was used in vietnam "18 years of american dream" he was drafted at 18 "did you see them in the river they were there to wave to you" then in the next verse it is "did you see him in the river..." a group of americans were crossing a river and were mowed down by vietnamese soldiers and were waving for help to other americans they married for peace and were gone north vietnam and south vietnam were joined and the americans left however none of this makes much sense in context with the rest of the song |
