I take this songs meaning as 2 people who are still together but their relationship has broke down and they dont know each other anymore, like they have grew apart or perhaps on her part she's stopped loving him. However he still suggests in the song that he is still in love with her and longs for her but her rejection and his lack of understand her feelings and heart makes things "easier to be apart" The lyrics "we might as well be strangers" suggests they are together, its talking about present tense, not past tense also this is backed up by the line "we're strangers in an empty space" which suggests they share time or space with each other. |
