This song is about when Andy had his little girl. His wife was struggling with drugs and that's why she was crying in her stomach. The curtains hanging from her neck was her being born in the hospital and thats when he knew she was perfect. The angels showing up as ambulances is pretty self explanitory from there. His wife's blood was dry meaning sober and since she struggled with alcohol too, he was suprised it was. ALSO, this is why he says "I never want to hear the truth, I want to hear your voice is sounding fine, my voice is sounding fine" cause he is worried during the birth and he looks to comfort her because (if you dont know) his little girl was born unexpectadly in his car, thus "I was in the front seat shakin it out and i was askin if you felt alright." |

I also think the song is from the hyme "Come Thou Fount" by Andy put a spin on it that applied to himself. I also think at the beginning (I fought the Spirit, with a sword in my side, Gee what a way out, crack my rib, way to die), that he is referring to God making him do His work and it took a "sword" in his side to motivate him much like Paul in the NT and he is saying that it nearly killed him ("[what a]way to die"). Throughout the song he is telling God to let him see the way, then turning his back, then asking again, showing his spiritual struggle with God. 2Corinthians 12:7b- there was given me a THORN IN MY FLESH, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. |
