"And now after some thinking I'd say I'd rather be A functioning cog in some great machinery Serving something beyond me" doesn't sound like "It's about not wanting to be a part of the society that would subject the singer's golden-haired angel to a life of worker's servitude, 'running the store'." (fgevilmonkey) Working in a store. Farming. Wanting to be a "A functioning cog in some great machinery". It sounds like he wants and likes playing a meaningful role of piety in society. |

Why does everyone think there is a girl in the story. It could be his best friend no? I find nothing that would make me believe its a girl. And at first I was confused about the United chant (Stars are from Canada) but I like what darksky48 said. Good song not so complicated but about very interesting human dynamics. |

| I'd really like to know what this song is about. The music is beautiful and peaceful. Maybe its talking about the jounery of a relationship and how it can be rough like the ocean or very long with no land in site. | |

This is my Favorite song of all time! Driving/walking/biking late at night with this song is always an amazing experience. Not many songs are this simple but yet richly poetic and reflective! Rich and reflective describe this song. At his new CD release in May ’09 in boulder at the Fox Theater he told everyone he wrote this song while driving home to a farm that he lived at in north Boulder. “Driving northbound, driving homeward, driving wind is driving me.” He sings the choirs so gently but the lyrics are very loud and resonating! I really like the line. “Give me darkness when I'm dreaming, give me moonlight when I'm leaving, Give me shoes that weren't made for standing.” Another great line that makes me think of how life can seem: “Cause I've been driving like a trucker, I've been wearing through the gears” *** “And I wish I was a sailor so I could know just how to trust” |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Little Bribes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| jjcx - How dull??? You don't understand Ben Gibbard or Death Cab! He comes across things in life and wonders about them and writes songs about them. This is a very interesting song. Its what he thinks about Vegas and what he has observed. Whats wrong with writing a light hearted song about something that interest you? What do you think they just needed another song so they made some crap up? NO. | |

| I don’t agree with you BUT I think you make the best agreement for the whole pregnancy idea. Just because it says "Stacked on top with your brother's" doesn’t mean her brother is present. Check out Gregory Alan Isakov "That Stable song". | |

Great line! Paints a picture. "Raindrops fall on this old town It's been me and you've been falling round" Not sure why they laugh at those changing trees? I guess they are casually talking and making light conversation. This song got to be about the beginnings of some couple hanging out in a town they both know well. |

| The lyrics originally posted are messed! Agreed Jenny! It is the stable song after all! Great song! I don't know what he is talking about but maybe I get the idea of habitual life. It’s a cycle he goes through of refining and messing up again. Might be way off but phrases like “Diamond to coal”, "And I ran back to that hollow again", "And you sent me back to where I roam" give me this idea. It could work…. His lyrics are the best for sure. His song 3 a.m. is my favorite! His whole new Alum is more vibrant then anything yet, I think (way good)! | |
