I'm interested in transhumanism as well, and thought of that when I heard "And what will happen? Will I dream?" but the image that really sticks in my mind is that of a *legionary* dying on a battlefield in Teutoberg or maybe Judea, anywhere in the Empire really. (See comment below by Darker, ha.) He's on the ground, covering a deep abdominal wound with both hands, trying in vain to keep his life from pouring out of him. The song is a transcript of his last thoughts as he perishes. "And what will happen? Will I dream?" (An enemy is cut down viciously by one of his comrades before his eyes; he reflects on his own mortality.) "But I don't know what happens now. I am too scared to close my eyes." (He breathes his last shallow gasps, and dies wide-eyed as the battle rages on around him.) |
