like many have said, the song is obviously about drugs. heroine, i'm guessing. the "she" that he is referring to, is the actual drug rather than a real girl. "she had a lot of pretty pretty boys that she calls friends" meaning that everyone went to "her." On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night There she stood in the doorway; I heard the mission bell And I was thinking to myself, 'This could be Heaven or this could be Hell' Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way There were voices down the corridor, I thought I heard them say... Welcome to the Hotel California Such a lovely place Such a lovely face Plenty of room at the Hotel California Any time of year, you can find it here he is going on with his life, but he sees the drug calling at him. his head grows heavy, because he is tempted to go to it, so he HAS to stop because obviously he is addicted. the drug was right there in the doorway just waiting for him, and he knew that his high would either be amazing or absolutely horrible. he could hear voices saying "welcome to the hotel california." i think hotel california is the temporary high. meaning he goes there whenever he uses. "such a lovely face" it looks awesome by it's outter appearance. you can go there whenever you want, because you can find the drug anywhere, any season. Her mind is Tiffany-twisted, she got the Mercedes-Benz She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat. Some dance to remember, some dance to forget everyone at the time messed with that drug. some did it to have fun with it, and remember it. and some did it to forget their bad lives. So I called up the Captain, 'Please bring me my wine' He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here Since nineteen sixty nine' And still those voices are calling from far away, Wake you up in the middle of the night Just to hear them say... now i'm not sure about this part. "please bring me my wine" and the spirit reference i think goes to the social ways of people. for example, someone has a nice day so they celebrate it with a drink. i also think that maybe everyone was using the drug as a way of celebration, but the guy decided to go to the traditional way of celebrating, and the "captain" was surprised because he was looking at another source. so i'm guessing he is trying to quit. but he wakes up in the middle of the night still needing the drug, so he goes to get high again. Mirrors on the ceiling, The pink champagne on ice And she said 'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device And in the master's chambers, They gathered for the feast The stab it with their steely knives But they just can't kill the beast man-kind has made this drug, and caused people to become addicted, and "prisoners." so as the realize it, they all gather to try and defeat it, but they just can't kill it. Last thing I remember, I was Running for the door I had to find the passage back To the place I was before 'Relax,' said the night man, We are programmed to receive. You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave! so the speaker is trying to run out. trying to go back to where he was before. and one of the people that got him into it, says "relax, we are programmed to receive." so they are addicted and their minds have been programmed to the drug. "you can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave!" he can stop the drug temporarily, but it'll always be haunting him. hmph, just intrepretation? not sure. |

| The Devil Wears Prada – Hey John, What's Your Name Again? Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I love this band. I think that overall, the band's focus is on the disguises of Satan. "The Devil Wears Prada." Satan comes disguised in pretty packages, and it's easy to fall into it by being of this world. "the concept of fashion is the one to blame: painting the portrait of conviction-less existence." the concept of fashion is really satan. fashion is of this world and keeps one from being completely close to God, because they're so worried about how they look all the time. However, it's completely meaningless. "well, it must be difficult being so gorgeous. claiming to be the kings and queens but it's all of nothing. this shall pass." those who aren't fallowers of Christ, struggle with vanity. that must be draining, trying to live life without the almighty God, which by the way is impossible, and on top of that, trying to look perfect all the time. the heart is what truly matters. With Christ, it'll pass, however. because he forgives all, even the lowest of the low. Megalomania- A psychopathological condition characterized by delusional fantasies of wealth, power, or omnipotence These people are lost without Christ, and are obsessed with meaningless things of this world. They will get you no where. "congratulations on mutiliation for a life." gradually, ruining their lives. "i'm going to hope for you, i'm going to pray for you amongst the wreckless and the black. salvation lies within." after one says the truth to a lost one, they can't possibly change them. that is up for God. he uses us to speak his message, and then he changes their hearts. so after all is said, all we can do is pray. even for the worst things, because God will love you no matter what, and forgive you no matter what. AMAZING GENUINE LOVEEE. Salvation Lies Within. Christ lies inside you, if you accept him! you must seek him. The answer is right in front of you, but God gave you the freedom of choice. do you choose to be of this world, or a fallower of Christ? "my time is your's my friend. we all find ourselves so horribly weak. (Oh God,) here's an offering. " he will invest his time in these lost people. because we were all in the same lost place before God found us. so offer your lives to him. (:live for Christ. |

| The Fray – You Found Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I was skimming through the comments, and it broke my heart. First of all, The Fray is a Christian band, so there's no doubt that the reference of God, is not some sort of symbolism, but actually speaking about the real almighty God. Being Christian, I had a hard time in this song at first. It says "where were you?" well, God is there all along. and it upset me at first. But now I realize that although God is there the whole time carrying you through the hardships, sometimes we're further from him than others, and we feel as if he's not there, but with faith, we know that he is. I found God on the corner of 1st and Amistad Where the West was all but won All alone, smoking his last cigarette I said, "Where you been?" He said, "Ask anything." - This is speaking of when the person is in that moment when they find God, whether it's their first time being saved or second. "1st and Amistad" is such a casual place which again, God is everywhere. Even in the most meaningless places. When I first became a Christian, I asked myself why it'd taken so long. But truth is, God has the right timing. The speaker is clearly confused and angry at God for not stepping in earlier, but sometimes it takes a person being at their LOWEST to truly let God into their life. Where were you, when everything was falling apart? All my days were spent by the telephone that never rang And all I needed was a call that never came To the corner of 1st and Amistad So where was God when the worst of times came? He was there, but when you pray to God, you must pray in faith. The greater the faith, the greater he will act. At the time, he wasn't truly seeking God, because he was so wrapped up in the ways of Satan. Lost and insecure, you found me, you found me Lying on the floor, surrounded, surrounded Why'd you have to wait? Where were you? Where were you? Just a little late, you found me, you found me. God finds us at our worsts. We're merely humans. We're nothing compared to God. God didn't wait, he was there all along, but the speaker was so prideful, that he failed to realize that there was a higher power. When you accept Christ, you realize how worthless you are. and sometimes it takes being at your worst. because that's when you MOSTLY need him. and you DO need him. But in the end everyone ends up alone Losing her, the only one who's ever known Who I am, who I'm not and who I wanna to be No way to know how long she will be next to me By "Her" I think it means all the worldy posessions one gives up for our creator. We must give up our sins, which is all we have ever known in order to grow close with God, and he's the only who takes sin away and forgives us. When you first find God, you're so confused. The Holy Spirit convicts you, and you're a mess, and it's the BEST feeling in the world. God is just touching your heart. "If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans." if you surrender to God, and ask for his will, the best will happen to you. and that means giving your life to him, and having no control, which is what he wants. obviously he is at this stage, and he is so confused because he doesn't have any idea what to do. However, God will carry him through it. The speaker is a complete mess, and then God finds him and his heart is convicted. It's the BEST FEELING EVER! But at the same time, it's intense. Satan has been telling this guy lies for so long that he has no idea what is going on. But God always wins! Do not let Satan keep having authority over your life. Live for Christ! |
