The Mae Shi – Pwnd Lyrics 16 years ago
While the previous song "Lamb And The Lion" suggests the apocalypse (due to the presence of lamb/lion imagery in the book of Revelations), and this song itself has references to Genesis, I think it may be more about man playing the role of God with references to other biblical destruction being used as a means of describing. That being, man is quoting the Old Testament, God's "eruptions" and "floods" as justification for their actions of burning and salting the earth. Manifest Destiny was largely considered by settlers to be the will of God (Exodus 23:30 By little and little I will drive them out from before thee, until thou be increased, and inherit the land.) Not only was this newly discovered, large slice of land perfect for expansion, it was filled with heathens that could do with some converting, or killing. The line that was corrected by Phonophobe is particularly telling of this.

He said, "Burn 'em up. Salt the earth. Do it fast. Make it hurt. Forget about salvation, they've got a new destination

This could very well be a reference to the trail of tears and the devastation of native american land. There were many settlers who believed death was the only path to salvation for the heathen indians. The California missions may be another link, in the repeated line of God telling someone to "Open up their eyes and let them know that I am very close to them," especially because the band is from California and it is required education for every elementary school to learn in excruciating detail about the missions.

The Mae Shi – Lamb & Lion Lyrics 16 years ago
This track serves as an introduction to the rest of the spiritual album.

Reference to the lamb and the lion "[...]is not an exact quote from scripture but rather a combination of thoughts from a couple of verses.

" 'Isaiah 11:6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.'

" 'Isaiah 65:25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.'

"Both of these passages deal with the kingdom age on the earth after the Lord Jesus Christ returns to reign on the earth as King of kings. The ferocious beasts (like the lion) will live peaceably with the gentle animals (like the lamb). Certainly, this will be a literal reality on the earth. However, this picture is also symbolic of the peace that will pervade the entire earth. When preachers speak of the lion and the lamb lying down together, they are referring to the time of peace when Jesus will reign as King over the earth." (learnthebible.org)

The song foretells impending destruction and inequalities among men. Another user (AugustKid) stated a relation to Marx on the track "Young Marks," and this song essentially reinforces that statement. Though in this, the narrator is disagreeing with Marx, there is still an implicit reference to a class struggle, and the first 2 verses are a distinct reference to capitalism.
