"The blue pill opens your eyes Is there a better way?" i think this is saying something about the illigeal drug he is taking cause it makes him feel better and see the world in the way he wants to see it cause it "opens his eyes". He thinks that there is no better way, like the drugs that the government lets you take. "A new religion prescribed To those without the faith" Religion meaning pills that your doctor gives you. The people who take this dont have faith in illigeal drugs. They dont want to risk what they can do for them so they dont have to take prescribed stuff. "A hero holding a knife And blood is not enough" Maybe talking about doctors and how people look to them as heros because they fix their problems, even if it leads to death aka "blood" "Is it too late to go back?" Maybe its a person saying, it is to late too go back to perscribed drugs. "Is it too late to go?" Like the first one, this might be someone trying to say, is it too late for me to try the illigeal drugs? Or both of these lines could totally relate to an acid trip. "Let's see if I'm hearing this right You suggest I should take A never-ending supply To carry out the dead" This sounds like hes talking to the doctor saying, "So your telling me to take these drugs for the rest of my life so i can feel the lose of my loved one anymore?". It just sounds like it has something to do with someone taking antidepressants. "Your idols burn in the fire The mob comes crawling up" This could relate to an acid trip. It also could mean that the "idol", a drug dealer or doctor, where they run out of drugs and "the mob" or the people who take the drug start to overflow the idol with demands for the drug "I'm reclaiming my mind Destroying everyone" At this point hes taking back his mind by giving up drugs and forgetting about the one who had to deal with durgs in anyway. thats just way i think of the lyrics |

heres my take on this song just from the point of view of branns sister skyes death "Lost love bright eyes fading Faster than stars falling How can I tell you I failed? Tell you I failed" brann has lost a loved one, skye, and over time she fading from him. With suicide comes guilt to the family and the feeling that they have failed their lost one. "Fallen from grace cause I been away too long Leaving you behind with my lonesome song Now I'm lost in oblivion" day after day hes falling from grace because he hasnt been with her in so long and all he can do to make him feel better and release all the feelings he has about her death is leaving her behind with this song. When he moves on a part of him still feels lost "Now im lost in oblivion". "I tried to bore a hole into the ground Breaking all the fingers and the nails from my hand The eyes of the child see no wrong Ignorant bliss in" in the interview with brann in Revolver Mag. may 2009. brann said "I got reall fucked up on acid and went to the cemetery and was trying to dig down into my sisters grave to get in there" this line totally relates to the line in this song. This verse also talks about the eyes of a child seeing no wrong, this mostly has to relate to his childhood and when him and his sister were just kids they didnt know right from wrong, they were just being kids. And when his sister died, he was still a kid and didnt really know what to do about it |

| Queens of the Stone Age – Turnin' On The Screw Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i remember watch a video of josh homme and joey talking about the new album and they asked them what the album artwork meant. josh said that the broken light bulbs represented ever bad idea that they had. just like when you have a idea, a light bulb goes off. But the ones on cover have peg legs and are smoking and drinking. This isn't your average idea. So i think the name of the song, Turn' on the screws, might mean something like trying to find the right answer to something. Or it could mean that he started thinking right and not have these messed up ideas... idk its a idea... | |

i was hoping no one had said it yet but milkwig beat me to it... i think this song is about the Salem witch trial that happen in 1768 i believe. (some time around then) after learning about them and listening to this song, i can pick out some lyrics from the song that relate to the Salem witch trials. First, a little background history on the Salem witch trials. During the discover of America, puritans came for religious freedom from england, if you dont know, puritans did nothing for fun a worshiped god 24/7. they didnt have dancing and what not because they thought it might lead you to the devil and stuff... anyway. Rev. Parris was the towns minister and his stepdaughter, Abigael Williams, and the other girls of the town went out to go dance and play in the woods. they danced around a pot with hot watter and threw berry's and leaves and stuff in it like children do, but Rev. Parris thought of it as witch craft and the devils work. shortly after the girls started to say names of people in their town who "they saw" with the devil. the reason why one person stood up and said something about it because Abigail Williams threaten to kill them if they told that it was all a joke and a scam. She saw her parents murdered as a young child by Indians. So at a young age she grew up a very corrupted person. So the other girls just rolled with it and this lead to a court of people who were accused of "knowing the devil". if you confessed, you could live, if you didnt confess, you would be hanged. i know the song is called "Burn the witch" but when i look at the rest of the lyrics, it just says salem witch trials to me.. for exammple. "Holding hands Skipping like a stone" this is kinda like childs play and what not, holding hands and skiping stones is all they do. now when "On our way To see what we have done" On their way to see what they have done to the towns people by letting it happen and not standing up to Abigail "The first to speak Is the first to lie" The first person to speak (or accuses someone) was the first to lie because they were lying the whole time "The children cross Their hearts and hope to die" they would rather die then live to see them kill innocent people for no reason? im not to sure about this line. "Bite your tongue Swear to keep your mouth shut" Pretty much what Abigail told them. "Ask yourself Will I burn in Hell?" thinking if they will burn in hell for killing these people "There they are The mob it cries for blood" Mob of girls that cry for blood by killing the accused "Fan the flames With a little lie" The little lie they told has started this huge fire and they cant stop it now "Then turn your cheek Until the fire dies" until this comes to an end, just look the other way and let it happen "Bite your tongue Swear to keep Keep your mouth shut Make up something Make up something good" Pretty much just keep your mouth shut and lie until the trials come to an end. So thats my take on this song, sorry if that was to long for you but thanks if you read it all. good song, good album, really good band! |

| this song is about people who work jobs 9 to 5, monday - friday, and get payed shit for it. like in the early days of mastodon, they worked during the day and played shows at night for nothing, pretty much its just about work and how much it sucks... | |

this song is definitely about a journey up a mountain and fits the concept of the album blood mountain, but i agree with, hazeus. i think its both about the journey and physical struggle. if your looking it as a journey i would say its about just starting the climb up the mountain and like the lyrics This river is running violence A way to catch our breath Rising from the mercury We will climb to bestow our trust Take away the anchor Amplify the mystery Inhale the earth and wind Map out the plans to our test but if your looking at it in a physical struggle, i would say its about letting go of of everything and letting loose, leaving a part behind and moving on Carve Carve out your soul Lay it on the alter And leave us here all alone and setting free and starting fresh for whatever new lies ahead. Take away the anchor Amplify the mystery Inhale the earth and wind Map out the plans to our test |
