Crowded House – Pour Le Monde Lyrics 16 years ago
Like dizrythmia girl, I think this is a song about Paul Hester.

I think it's about protecting Paul's good reputation (countering the liars that have moved in). It's about pulling the tightest circle possible around someone who was so precious in life.

I think this song must have taken some guts to write; and it demonstrates again an admirable friendship at play here between two amazing blokes.

I love Crowded House's songs already, but I'm finding I'm more inspired daily by their integrity.

Crowded House – Better Be Home Soon Lyrics 16 years ago
for me - but I suspect for Neil Finn as well - this has always been Hessie's song.

Paul must have spent many a night out on tour grappling with a longing for his homeland, and in his heart of hearts, he came to know he'd better be back home soon. [Neil always has found a way to tell Paul's story, after all]

consequently, and as a result, I think there must have developed certain conflict between Neil and Paul over coats of lies and deceptions, possibly perpetrated by both, which as we know lead one of them to end it [the tour that is] - as the song goes.

Crowded House – A Sigh Lyrics 16 years ago
this is a song of companionship and nostalgia over losing a loved one; here, a close friend.

the sigh of the song: it's what we will all experience along the way - loss.

Crowded House – You Are The One To Make Me Cry Lyrics 16 years ago
well, I think you're both on the right track.

certainly, Neil has mentioned on more than one occasion that this song is loosely based on the near death experience of Robert Hewitt, a diver. but, then, it's doesn't take a genius to get the point that Neil's lyrics have always worked on many levels, that there may be more going on than what meets the eye.

Tvstevie attributes the viewpoint of the song to Paul Hester, and comments: "I don't know who made Paul cry".

you were the the one to make me cry
you were the one to take me home

I actually think this question is clearly answered by looking back at the opening song on the album, entitled "Nobody Wants To", where it seems obvious Neil is trying to come to grips with the loss of Paul:

are we losing something?
we used to cry, we used to say why
for all I know I might not get home
well, I found out if we opened it up
we could work this out

it's my guess that they (Paul and Neil) were both trying to work through their demons. I might guess that Neil is who made Paul cry, but it was also Neil who helped Paul eventually come home. May he rest in peace.

As to kidheadcase's take on this song, it works only so before you need to open up to the emotion of this ever so perfect song to understand that it ain't so.
