I guess BMTH fans arent as imaginative or intelligent as I would have liked to see looking here.... to make it clear this song is about 'clensing' the earth aka doing away with a certain type of shitty people. The specific people they are talking about seems to be slutty girls. - First four lines just talk about a girl being a slut, like you see in movies (hollywood) and popular culture. The sun goes down and so does she .. pretty obvious sexual reference ... if u dont understand it your i guess just too young or brain dead - second set of four lines talk about why they these slutty girls are so shity. They sell out on love. Thus hes saying although they may have started as lovable human beings they sold that out and just turned into sluts... followed by the same sexual reference. - the next part about counting your blessings. He is just saying they shouldn't take their rich spoiled easy lifestyle for granted because he is watching them everytime they lie. - Therafter he asks christ to bring a plague to kill off these type of people for the remainder of the songs |

| So I was getting pissed about everyone guessing the wrong meanings to this song so i looked it up for hours(i really like this song) and I ENDED UP FINDING AN INTERVIEW ABOUT THIS in which where they asked "What is the concept behind seven years". And his (the lead singers) answer was .... (if this song means something crazy specific and interesting to you i DO NOT recommend reading the rest bcuz i was unfortunately very dissappointed)... anyways his answer was that seven years ago he was in high school. And the song is just about his life in general over the past seven years, in dealing with friends and drugs and all the shit that has happened. He makes no reference to faith in anything as many like to assume or any kind of girlfriend which even more ppl seem to want to attribute it to. Sorry if this ruined it for you, I love this song and i really wish it was about something bigger than just random statements about the past 7 years. Anyways if you were like me and you needed the truth thats what he said... if you want the exact quote google and you will have to look for a while but its out there. | |

I feel like the northern lights were used as a metaphor in place of a girl. And as some of the lyrics lead to the girl taking her life. So the not wanting the lights to leave him yet would mean he doesnt want something so beautiful to leave him and burn out so soon (by taking their life). Im inclined to think this way to do a personal experience with a person with depression problems who seemed to act extremely similar to the potential girl in the song. So I could be wrong .. but most every line seems to fit this girl and situation. The first 3 lines point out the insecurities in this girl and the 4th goes on to explain that when you really talk to her about it her thoughts on the inside are what causes her to have these insecurities. Then when it goes on to the "So at ease with the nights we drove alone ..." are like how in my experience this person (this girl) that can have some days where they are just so insecure and feel so lost , can on some occasions just be so comfortable (at ease) on the nights when you take them out and just have a special time with them ("from the top of the hill where we concquer" , could jsut refer to a place where they hung out so happy together). The "We dreamt it all along, from the nights when the line stayed alive, we shared" I seems to talk about hte nights they talked on the phone together for hours where they shared their feelings (about her insecurities and what not). And sometimes when life just gets hard for this person it seems like they are barely hanging on ("by a thread well hang on, to never give in") and to point out the reason for me to believe the story is about a suicidal/depressed girl the last line refers to the last night in her shoes. Sorry about the spelling mistakes ... and like I said I could be wrong but its just an attempt I felt like sharing |

lol this song pisses me off because i cant figure out what it means I see both the ideas presented above (except the chasing ur dreams one)as being valid in some places but invalid in others ... the addict version seems pretty legit but the last 2 lines just throw that off .. unless the well start it again could mean he slips again and does whatever drug and then they ahve to start from square one in the detox ... and also the chorus doenst fit ? why are they lonely dreamers if one does drugs and the oher is trying to get him off? ... the forgiveness one it seems to make sense because as explained with the one on the floor and other on the cieling and the glass in the mouth, the rest jsut kinda seems like reaching and trying to make the lyrics fit.... ... When I first herd it (without looking at the lyrics) I felt like it was about a car crash (much like some of their other music). Like they snuck out for a midnight swim and ended up in a car crash. After the car crash the one being on the floor and the oher on the ceiling would just be how they were positioned after the crash ... .and looking behind "the glass in your mouth" i thought just meant glass from the crash and this "looking behind" would just mean forgiving him for the car crash, and he feels entitled to this forgiveness when he says he is "due for" it jsut after. I feel like the "everything is going to be all right, even if hte city ignites" could have been her saying right after the crash that even if she died because of the crash it would be all right ... like she would forgive him .. (i feel like he said the city ignites just because its such a crazy situation that she would die on this simple midnight swim trip it would be like if his whole world burst into flames (ignited)) ... some i wasnt to sure about .. but having been in many hospital rooms ive noticed that their windows are gigantic so that may fit the "and now to get back to the room where theres windows as large as the city below" . Because after the crash they must head to the hospital ... and then as the chorus says the sun will set on them but it will rise again only for them to start over (hoping that they both survive and can get back up and give it another go tomorow) ... (sorry about the spelling .. its late) ... like I said my opinion came from before I read the lyrics so its prob wrong but i figured id put it out there in case anyone found interest in it |

| My opinion seems to agree with some of the others that posted .... to me it is all about losing someone close to you ... he talks about how losing someone brings your other close friends and family or whatever closer and makes you stronger after going through it... and also that when he says "its how it is, as we stare it down" its just one of the things in life that you cant really do shit about, it just happened and you have to deal with it. After that it explains how you try to act like nothings happening (like its all normal and what not) in "when everything inside wants me to feel like this is normal" although it isnt and he explains how crazy it really feels .... thereafter he explains "and from a distance it seems that he water will wash the panic away" meaning after lots of time passes you do go back to normal. It is not the same normal, it will always be different, but you will get back to some sort of norm that is not crazy like you felt immediately after. | |

| It doesnt seem like anyone wrote the meaning so I guess I will. Oh and in reguards to everyone changing the lyrics every five minutes: Jesse Lacey said at one of his shows or interviews or something that he feels liek a song is never done so sometimes he changes the lyrics (lol and sometimes he forgets them which youve probably seen if you just go on youtube lol).... anywyas in an interview he taked about this song and he explained what a degausser is. It is something used to take the electric charge out of a tape or somehting like that (not really sure what just some kind of older recording device) so that it doesnt spark, anyways he said this is the name because in this song he is talking about something related to what the deguaser does, taking the spark out of something. And he further explained its about taking the spark/electricity/excitement out of life or things that happen in it. | |
