| Lykke Li – Love Out Of Lust Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I love this interpretation, and even if it's not exactly how Lykke Li intended it, I do think artists purposely leave songs up to interpretation, so they can mean a lot of things to a lot of people. | |
| Florence + the Machine – Bird Song Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I immediately thought of both "Tell Tale Heart" and "Bluebird" by Poe and Bukowski, respectively. They coincide nicely, especially based on most of the interpretations here. In Poe's short story, a murder has committed and the guilty is all-consuming. In Bukowski's poem, there is an intense reluctance at showing any sort of "soft-side." Hmm. | |
| The Fray – Heartless (Kanye West cover) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I definitely agree. It's hard to tell if it's just because it relates to the situation that I'm in, but it does seem like a relationship where they have been together long enough to love each other, but they're just sort of getting over the honeymoon phase. It's no longer about always being on your best behavior, but they're willing to embrace (or kiss) each other's flaws (scars). I think it's also about realizing that you picked someone really great for you. "Oh you gotta fire and it's burnin' in the rain./Thought that it went out, but it's burnin' just the same." Their relationship is strong enough to withstand and when you love somebody, love them all the same. I love this song and it gets me so excited for the album. | |
| Nickel Creek – Eveline Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This song mirrors the short story of the same name by James Joyce in his compilation "Dubliners." A young girl wants to leave with the someone who loves her, but stays with her not-so-kind father because it was her mother's dying request. It's incredibly sad. The sort of thing that no matter what she'd chosen, you'd feel bad. | |
| Ryan Adams – Sylvia Plath Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| This is excellent. I think it's also somewhat noteworthy that Plath was stunningly beautiful. | |
| Brand New – Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| THANK YOU. I seriously thought that was common-knowledge. Yet everyone wants to insist that he's taking on the persona of his ex-girfriend... or making fun of rockstars? Kind of laughable. Anyway, team BN. | |
| Patrick Park – Time for Moving On Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Right. Self-explanitory, but so good. It's like the stage RIGHT after you've started to accept that it's done and gone. The stage when you've got to accept it's not coming back. | |
| Patrick Park – Arrive Like a Whisper Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
ARRIVE LIKE A WHISPER I see you driving away, on some holiday, just to leave it all behind, because as wheels turn you don't feel the burn of the things you carry inside. You've been sharpening those blades, for too many days you're tired of looking for a fight, but now and again, my unfortunate friend, we all do things we know aren't right. You can call me up, on some rainy Sunday cause you're all alone, but you know you won't be one day, one day... You're gonna ride the wind that rattles your cage, you wont' feel no pain when you're wide awake, and you'll give anyone more than they can take, arrive like a whisper, go out with a bang. Now you may bend or break, but that's the chance you take, when you're hell bent and trouble bound, but just so you know, the further you go, it gets so hard to turn around. You can call me up on some rainy Sunday, cause you're all alone, but you know you won't be one day, one day... You're gonna ride the wind that rattles your cage, you won't feel no pain when you're wide awake, and you'll give anyone more than they can take, arrive like a whisper, go out with a bang. These are the correct lyrics, as posted on Patrick's site. He's so under-appreciated. This song is absolutely incredible. Seems to me about perhaps being passive and then realizing that the things that make you weak can be overcome. You're gonna ride the wind that rattles your cage. |

| I absolutely adore this interpretation. | |

this song is perfection, my favorite without a doubt. it captures everything beautiful that humans are capable of doing. "When I'm losing my control, the city spins around You're the only one who knows, you slow it down" To me this is saying that when you start to feel like you're going to fall apart, there's only one person that can calm you down, and they do so just by holding you. "It's always have and never hold You've begun to feel like home What's mine is yours to leave or take What's mine is yours to make your own" Obviously, "Home" is a person's place of solace, comfort, peace, naturality, warmth, and pure happiness. Another line I adore is "to leave or take," which shows a vulnerability that makes me melt. The love is so deep that it offers everything, even at the risk of rejection and being crushed, and wants their everything to be the other's everything as well. Simply gorgeous. I heard this song live and it was easily one of the highlights of my life. I was weak in the knees the entire time. |

| The Fray – Vienna Lyrics | 16 years ago |

SO relatable. The day's last one-way ticket train pulls in (It’s the end, and I’m not coming back) We smile for the casual closure capturing. (Let’s make this a smooth and dishonest goodbye, without tears) Here comes the downpour (Just kidding, the tears/sadness was inevitable) There goes my fare thee well (Time to really say goodbye) There's really no way to reach me There's really no way to reach me There's really no way to reach me (You can’t get through to me about this anymore) Cause I'm already gone (I’m officially giving up on this) Only so many words that we could say (There was only so much that could be said…) Spoken upon long-distance melody. (… once I had left for school and grew in distance emotionally and physically, we’ll never say half the things we really wanted to) This is my hello (This is more like my goodbye…) This is my goodness (…but just for now) There's really no way to reach me There's really no way to reach me There's really no way to reach me (There’s nothing you can do) Cause I'm already gone (Because I’m gone) Maybe in five or ten yours and mine will meet again (Maybe someday we’ll meet again…) Straighten this whole thing out. (…and work things out) Maybe then honesty need not be feared as a friend or an enemy (And when that time comes, maybe we won’t be afraid or too excited to say how we really feel) But this is the distance (But for now, we’re separated) And this is my gameface (And I’m going to fight it out with my gameface on) There's really no way to reach me There's really no way to reach me (You can’t have me, you can’t come with me) Is there really no way to reach me? ([Doubting myself] Am I sure I don’t want you to come with me?) Am I already ([Again with the self-doubt] Have I already made myself unreachable to you? [The absence of the word gone here suggests that the answer to his own question is yes]) So this is your maverick (This is me, cutting you off the hook, giving you your freedom. You wanted it at a time.) And this is Vienna (And despite the seemingly war-torn shell surrounding this freedom, it’s beautiful, and it’s where and how you find yourself [Vienna is often said to be a place of finding oneself]) |

| The Fray – Enough For Now Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I was just at their concert, and just before they performed this, Isaac said, "This is a song about the shitty relationship I had with my grandpa..." (and just about every girl in the audience said 'Aww..') | |
