Well, I agree with you all. . But anyway, just a crazy thought, in this stanza: And I said How about them engine breaks And, if I should die before I wake Will you keep an eye on Baby Birch Because I'd hate to see her Make the same mistakes I believe that is the baby that is talking... And the "Baby Birch" is in fact, Joanna (or the persona poetica/narrator): And the baby is telling explicitly: "if I should die before I wake, would you keep an eye on [Joanna/narrator]... because (she or he, the baby does not have an explicit gender troughout the song, I believe) doesn't want HER to make the same mistakes. (The pronoum HER is, of course, adressing a woman)" Meaning that the baby does not want joanna to be in this same painful situation never again, I dunno if I explained myself very well. |

I truly believe that thios song is inspired by the clitoris mutilation done in some cultures and/or religions, where the clitoris is somewhat circumcised to make them unable to feel pleasure while having sexual intercorse. This mutilation is usually done before the age of five. If I'm right, this is definitely a feminist statement, and they can't keep their composure while girls genitals are being mutialted everyday. according to wikipedia: Female genital mutilation (FGM), also known as female genital cutting and female circumcision, is the ritual removal of some or all of the external female genitalia. I think the line. That you WERE here. that you were alive someday and the people should know it. so regina leave us her mark with this song :) that's why she says: "I was here but now I've gone to take a walk And I won't be back until you know my name 'Cause we're not all the same thing" you don't have to give up making the people know that you were here :) 'cause we're not all the same thing. we all are diferent people and we all want to make the people know that we were here :) :3 |
