Devendra Banhart – I Love That Man Lyrics 16 years ago
Does anybody know who he's singing about? I love 'I hear bad things in a good way'.

Devendra Banhart – The Charles C. Leary Lyrics 16 years ago
Devendra seems to be channelling the ghost spirit of a bayside widow in San Francisco circa 1850. How does he do it?

Devendra Banhart – Hey Mama Wolf Lyrics 16 years ago
I was driving home out of the mountains of New Mexico when this song was playing. It drove me to tears.

Devendra Banhart – Nice People Lyrics 16 years ago
This in one of Devendra's best songs. That combination of imagery just sets my mind off in all directions - person in suit and tattooes - pale horse. like the cover of 'Desertshore' by Nico. That intensity in his voice doesn't come across in later recordings, except here and there in 'crippled crow'

Devendra Banhart – Samba Vexillographica Lyrics 16 years ago
the free association totally works here. i love to play this song very loud. it's a lot of fun. you could also translate 'mira como va a ensenar' as 'look how it's going to show (us)'.

Devendra Banhart – Saved Lyrics 16 years ago
the style of this song puts me off. feels like being in church, which is nauseating. i'd like to see those words in a musical context. it's kind of gimmicky.

Devendra Banhart – Little Boys Lyrics 16 years ago
'little boys' is probably THE db song I find the most challenging, because i cannot understand if he is speaking for himself or through the eyes of another. regardless, the discomfort is palpatable at the later point in the song. i get 'little boys' as hot young men to which one might be attracted, but identifying with it literally, well, that just seems to embrace pedophila, which speaks for itself. The best sense to me is that it was written as the non-starbucks anthem, but doesn't a lot of music apply?
