The Dear Hunter – In Cauda Venenum Lyrics | 15 years ago |
And I just found out that IN CAUDA VENENUM means "In the tail (is) the poison" or "To save the worst for last." |
The Dear Hunter – In Cauda Venenum Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is about the Dear Hunter enlisting in a war. He's being sucked into the propaganda of war. "A majesty's massacre floods the fields of red" A leader decides to wage war, and is turning fields red with blood. "And now with hands aligned, these arms move tonight" This refers to soldiers with they're hands at their sides and marching. I think. "and we cry 'we can not allow this, This is terrible'" The people are saying that something has to be done to stop this terrible war from happening. "With ideals we're idle as they lust for more." There is nothing we can do. The leaders are in charge, and they want this war to happen. "oh if we settle the score. We've never been so excited to see you before" They're excited to see new, fresh recruits to send out. "In the cradle we are helpless but on our feet we are fatal how we evolve and grow into twisted beasts with a desire for disorder OH what a terrible game we play" We can go from helpless children, to violent killing machines. "replacing the pawn for a body. And the players? Politicians who say what they need to say" We are nothing but pieces to a game. We do whatever our leaders say to do. |
The Dear Hunter – Writing on a Wall Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Come away young man where the ground is red and you need a mask to breathe. Oh, it's been so hard, but your luck could change if you'd just roll up your sleeves." If the Dear Hunter works hard enough in the army, good things could happen. "We had tried our best to warn before but it didn't get you far. Now we're here again with a wish to mend your agonizing scar." The Oracles are back to try and guide him in the right direction, and hopefully help him settle his regret for his past struggles. "Open eyes young man vigilantly hands and a heart prepared for pain. You will lose much more in this vicious war, past and present stay the same." He is seeking bloodshed and is cold and bitter because of what he's been through. And he will repeat his mistakes if he doesn't heed the Oracles' warning. "But the time to come can be altered some if you listen to our song...but we sing in vain, and the fact remains, there is nothing to be done?" They know that he isn't going to listen, and therefore he is on the road to a new painful conflict. |
The Dear Hunter – Where The Road Parts Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I take it as it's two parts. Him thinking to himself and then an actual phone call to Ms. Leading. "Its ironic how I fall just to get back up again A fix to cure this ailing bitter agony" He's hurting from the last time they met, but he still wants to get up and see her again. "Meet me where the road parts you remember where we first met" I think this is a note he sent to Ms. Leading, which she didn't respond or show up to. "So tongue and cheek with stale irony, if it pleases you it pleases me" It's ironic that he fell in love with a prostitute, and he thinks she may be getting a kick out of it. "Just an innocent call a telephone call Just an innocent call" He's telling himself one call won't hurt, so he calls her. And we see a part of the conversation: Ms. Leading: "Now if you were in bloom Id pluck your petals clean Although it won't seem so I can promise you my egos running me Then I recalled You were the only one that didnt fold" Yes, she's telling him she was just using him. But then she remembers that he really loved her, when no one else did. So maybe she did have feelings for her after all. Dear Hunter: "But I just broke right down for you in an attempt to gain control" He caved in and told her everything, because he thought that would make her love him back. |
The Dear Hunter – Red Hands Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"Even if you never strayed from me Id question your fidelity Thered always be a shroud of suspicion And my hearts a liability" He knows she's a prostitute, and he figures if she can just have sex with guys as a job, she could just as easily sleep with them because she's used to it. She's a whore and it is expected of her. "With your hands marooned so freshly red Youd wrap your lips around my neck Try and forced to love the thought of me Simple motions make me ill" He knows when he goes to see her, that she has been with other guys just before him, "marooned so freshly red". She is just doing what she thinks he wants, to make him feel loved. "Was it bitter when you tossed and turned On an under covered mattress did it feel so good hope it felt so good Dont know what Id do if you lost sleep over little old me Its so much better, their all much better Take off your sweater your shoes and your shirt and get to work" He's confronting her on her lifestyle. Asking her if she enjoys it, and if she ever thinks about him while she's doing it. And yes, I think he is just being arrogant when he tells her to "get to work" "Maybe this is just a work of art Scripted players in a play of lust Hope the endings well worth waiting for And everything you wished it be" He's second guessing everything now. If she can pretend love, maybe everything is all a lie. "Oh my god what have I done Now my darling put your clothes back on Oh my god what have I done Now my darling put your clothes back on Cause you cant be caught red handed If youre not red handed My darling if I ever said those words to you I was pulling out my heart so I could pin it to my sleeve A display for you to see Im on display" He's upset for getting mad at her now. He regrets saying what he said before. He wants to take it back. He figures its all been in his head that she's been cheating on him. |
The Dear Hunter – Evicted Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's about how he has no where to go, and that he's used to it. I blew all his money at the dime on ms leading and has nowhere to sleep but curbside on broken glass. He got there on a stolen ticket. He's been broke his whole life, and is used to it. |
The Dear Hunter – The Bitter Suite I: Meeting Ms. Leading / Through the Dime Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think this song reintroduces the Oracles, when he says, "Where's her heart? Mimicking the matriarch... He's naive; blissfully ignorant and Trusting but now?" because part I was originally in first person, then the oracles sing, and then it's the p&p and the people inside the dime singing in part II |

Now we know that the bombs going off are referring to the war he's in in Act III |
The Dear Hunter – Saved Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I don't know why, but I relate this song to "The Lake and the River". In that song he says, "Transfixed like a light in front of me, It follows my soul" and in this one he says, "Illuminate and I will follow". It's like both times he's being led by someone to safety. First his mother's ghost, and then someone like ihatehatehaters said, his father. |
The Dear Hunter – He Said He Had a Story Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree, the silver circle sign is definitely the dime. But I think the "he" in "he said he had a story" is the dear hunter's father telling him about how he met Ms Terri. This cd seems to bring back up the father a lot. |
