This is what I believe that this song is about. Things are rusted from the rain when they are forgotten about or left alone for long periods of time. This is about a relationship where one lover does not care about the other for reasons unknown, be it another person or entertainment or whatever, people do strange things. Go on crush me like a flower, rusted from the rain Flowers are insignificant. I would crush one without even thinking about it. Comparing a human to a crushed flower is truly calling someone worthless. You hung me like a picture, now I'm just a frame I used to be your lap dog, now I'm just a stray Shackled in a graveyard, left here to decay Left here to decay, left here to decay Obviously the person he speaks about cares very little for him or may even resent him. All this stanza does is emphasize Bens feelings. |

I believe that this song is about living in someones shadow for most of your life only to wake up one day and realize that you are a lie. Learning to fly in skies That fail to persuade my soul Has shattered my mind How this stanza is relevant is that you grow up being untrue to yourself always trying to please and impress another person and become someone your not. A guy can only be himself and you get progressively depressed. So helpless I bleed Emptied nest of creativity The silence no longer my friend Or my seed Of course you can never really win over this significant person because you are a lie and have no passion or confidence and are helpless because this is all you know. You feel as if you have been torn in two with a constant tug of war going on in your head and you feel empty because you hardly know yourself and your own skin feels almost alien. Found myself holding on To something that was so untrue Trying to make up for all That was gone You hold on to your old self because you think it may still be worth something and may be able to please the person because your relationship with them has deteriorated. Reversing time and fighting the tide Impregnating fate with my pride I will not compromise Start over.
