| You nailed it. This song has a deeper meaning and you caught it. Although I want to add one thing. "Grab the wheel and make this life Yours" I believe that this line is a reference to God in that, as Christians, we should submit ourselves to God and let Him take control of our lives because without Him, we are bound to live a chaotic life. | |

| great interpretation! As a follower of Jesus Christ, the time of brokenness is a humbling experience as well as a growing experience. When we are at our lowest, we reach for God the most. We we have lost everything, we want to gain Christ's love more than any other time. When we are nothing, He is our everything. | |

I always like to look at ABR's songs with a different angle. Because JB writes the songs with a Christian base, I feel this song is no different. The person being described in this song is being tormented by Satan because of the mistakes he/she has made in the past. I think it's easy to imagine this song describing an elderly person which is understandable but ABR uses imagery alot and it's apparent in "Crusades". Focus on these lines: "As the days go by It's getting harder to hold my head up high I used to think I'd last forever Now I'm praying for the light to just carry me away" When I read these lines I can't help but think of Paul when He wrote to the church of Philippi. Paul was enduring extreme persecution for his efforts of spreading the Gospel. When he was in jail, he was torn between two desires. He wanted to free from his persecution and be with the Lord Almighty in heaven but he also wanted to remain on earth as encouragement for all the believers. To add to that story, Paul completely put his entire faith in Christ and was submissive to His will for his life. Is this song a reference to Paul's life or is it a story of someone in a similar situation? Just food for thought. |

Just because ABR hasen't fallen into the category of Christian bands who have strayed away from God does not mean that they can not write a song about the bands that have! If you listen to the entire album of Messengers you can easily pick up on the conviction theme that is apparent in each song. ABR is sick of seeing Christ centered artists fold to the ways of this world. Period. "Pain must exist in order for healing to survive. Neither one will ever serve their purpose alone." That's a tough pill to swallow. |

| Of course the self-injury can be taken figuratively. The self-injury may not be limited to strictly "cutting." I think everyone is guilty of beating themselves up over some type of failure in their life. Considering all of August Burns Red's songs have Christian meanings to them, I think that this song is no different. Christians continually fall short of God's grace and it's hard sometimes to get up and move on. | |
| August Burns Red – Back Burner Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song is implying how individuals in today's society are wrapped up in their worldly possessions and miss out on the real life that Jesus Christ has to offer them. | |
