From the demons that keep hounding them and gouge their eyes" With this part I get the feeling Propagandhi is trying to say that religion is creating its own fear in its followers. Unless you are a believer you don't have the sense of an EVIL trying to tempt you, take over your life and demons trying to gouge your eyes. They are saying that you are protecting yourself so securely behind your religion and feel it is a safe-haven from evil that some people never see that their mere faith is what creates all of these characters in the first place. If only they would let in some of the floodlights they would be rescued from these fantasy demons that their own religion has created for them to fear. This is why people who follow a doctrine so strong especially when tied into a promise of a paradise in the after-life (or punishment) will do pretty much anything in this life. |

This song is not a rally song for Canuks to get pissed and sick of all the shit the USA drags them through. Tired of being our little brother and getting the people fired up to get us all out and be done with the USA. It is about Canadians having the thoughts and pride that they are above the fucked up shit that the USA does. The entire point of this song is to show that Canada too has its flaws and it isn't some super-awesome nation in a bubble with higher moral values. I think the title also eludes that even if your average Canadian gets pissed about Pax Americana and gets so fired up and wants to start a war and tell the USA to fuck off and everything this song talks about that is just them blowing smoke and their stupid ass nationalism talking. |

Just because there is an election process and 'democracy' does not mean the people are represented in the government and big business. These people created the delusion to make us servants feel that we have a choice over who runs this country and are important in the selection process. We do not. Having options doesn't mean you can always pick a winner. And the sobering reality is that even if true democracy broke loose they would just 'make the economy scream until we vote responsibly.' The very end about 'until we vote responsibly' is not saying until we make the correct choices in candidates to better our situation it is saying that the powers at be will make our lives very difficult and piss everyone off until we let them force our hand back to the state that it is in now. |
