beautiful song. i love it. no one's posted a meaning yet >.> well MrMaxVC posted a meaning of uncanny. but i mean of the song. i think, when he says bigger, he means more grown up, more mature, or at least knows what they want in life and will do whatever it takes to get it or something along those lines. basically it's an "ok, you're better, more mature and whatnot than me. yet you stay for some reason. and i really have no problem with that." but maybe that's just me, who knows? but i agree, it's uncanny ego. of course by the time i'm posting it's already been fixed. |

damn, few people have commented I think that, yes, she's be lying to him and leading him on completely sure that she can capture him in the fantasy while she tries to figure out what to do herself. and this song is him saying 'I'm not falling for the bullshit anymore commit yourself or not.' though the "halfway gone" part could mean one fo two things in my mind. 1) during the relationship he was drifting off with every lie she told him, every time she lead him on. 2) he's leaving, but still loves her despite everything so it's hard to break away but he's slowly managing it. "Cause I'm halfway in, but don't take too long Cause I'm halfway gone, I'm halfway gone" he's half in love with her still and halfway gone. either way i love this song to death and the music video doesn't make too much sense (though every time I've watched it wasn't in any kind of state to decipher anything....) |

so you don't like switchfoot? that's perfectly fine, you like what you like. what i don't get, then, is why the fuck you're on the page of one of switch foot's songs. did you go "Oh hey! let's antagonize some of their fans!" or did you go "Hey that was a good song let's look it up....whoa! that's switchfoot? FML" and then proceed to make fun of someone to make yourself feel better. which was it? anyways, i like this song. i think it's basically saying shit happens and if something happens that you can't handle don't just wallow in it, "pick yourself off the floor" and try again. just because something/someone/you fucked up doesn't mean the world is ending. |

| i don't think they sound the same voice wise, but the music itself sounds similar, though i wouldn't mistake it and I actually have to listen to see how people are getting it, the music and lyrics-not the vocals-sound the same. the voices are different. i think, personally, (because it's what I've been through ><) that it's, well, about a guy who lied. but not really in the same way as everyone else seems too. i think he was lying to her, constantly telling her that he's fine and that they're fine or will be fine and everything will resolve itself until she just finally saw through it all and said it was enough. now he's trying to change, to be able to finally tell the truth to at least the people who matter to him, so maybe, just maybe she'll take him back again. but that's probably just me because, like i said, this is what happened to me. Note: It's called "Bring me to Life" not "Wake me up" though that is a sub-name. to the point, i lie your theory. "Going Under" talks about a very controlling person, "Imaginary" is ehr depression because (to my understanding) some depressed people make little imaginary worlds that they escape to when enough gets to be enough. and with cutters their little world to pain to know they're alive and all that jazz. and then that would lead up to "Tourniquet" for if the situation wasn't handled or wasn't handled properly it could lead to the person commiting suicide from frustraition and misery, and while in all that pain they realize this is not what they want and they start begging forgiveness to be let into Heaven when they arive at the Pearly Gates. Heaven and Hell, bullshit things in my book-Agnostic here but still, interesting point. |

a tourniquet is where you have a wound bleeding profusely and, above it, you wrap something very tightly so as to cut off the blood flow to keep you from bleeding to death. ti's very crude and you could easily lose finger or toes of whatever buy the cell and tissue damage that can (and more than likely will) occur. it is highly recommended that one NOT use a tourniquet for that very reason. it's a last resource thing. i think in this song, she's saying God's Her tourniquet "Will I be denied? Christ. My tourniquet. my suicide" the whole "Christ, my tourniquet," I think are trying to be conveyed as synonyms above all else. even if Evanescence isn't Christian i think that's what they're portraying. but that may be just me ....this coming from an agnostic standpoint. (I didn't know which you meant, metaphorical sense of the song or literal sense of the word tourniquet, so i gave both ^.^" and your welcome) |

| suicide is not a mental illness. people can be suicidal because of mental illnesses but suicide within itself is not an illness. and it is, in fact, one of the worst and most selfish sins you can commit in Catholisim. and it is one of the most selfish things you can ever do in you life, for you are dis regarding everyone who cares, at least slightly, for you. so yes, it is, in fact a sin. and no matter how loyal you are to god, you still always always always go to hell if you commit suicide. ok, so, i agree with the people's posts of whom I've read (the first page ><) it can be argued that it's Christain for it speaks of god. but the way I've always perceived it is she went about committing suicide (metaphorically or she may be talking about someone she knew/knows) and then in the last moments when it's already too late they have second thoughts and they're begging the load, God to forgive them so that in the after-life, they can be happy for they know there's no chance of them surviving this act of self-mutilation. at least not this one. So all in all, you can't argue that there's a certian small aspect of a religion in there. but that's just my definition. what do i know? |

neways, since I'm done being a (as I put it) martyr/peace loving whore, I'll throw in my two cents about the actual song, and not reprimanding people for how they go about saying things. ok, no one can deny it being about suicide. that's a no-brainer. BUT! well, in accordance to some people, Suicide is the most selfish thing one can do. all you're doing is saying "My feelings matter more than anyone else's" so that covers the whole "Self-righteous suicide" bit. as for the rest of the song, it can be interpreted in many different ways, they way i like to see it is: "Hide the scars to fade away the (shake-up)" meaning they're doing something they're ashamed of, but can't stop for maybe it's become addicting or something like that. "Grab a brush and put on a little make up" can go along with that too. "I don't think you trust, In, my, self righteous suicide," maybe he's attempted/threatened but no one actually believes he'd do it. after all Humans, as a race, love to lie to themselves. "I cry when angels deserve to die" is basically just saying that people who do so many good things and then screw up just once get punished the hardest-sometimes-and that upsets him. maybe he was like that at one point. "Father into your hands, I condemn my spirit. Father into your hands, Why have you forsaken me, In your eyes forsaken me, In your thoughts forsaken me, In your heart forsaken, me" could be that whatever he was trying to hide cause he was ashamed of his father found out and virtually disowned him for it. but then again, that's probably just me cause I'm twisted insane and fucked up like that and like believing things to mean things similar to what have happened to me in my life. -shrugs- |

I'm not meaning insult here, but I'm just sayin, a band like this having a christain song just wouldn't make sense. I'll admit there are a lot of things in the song that can /easily/ relate to Christianity, and if you want to believe that, it's cool with me. however, I do not like people going around saying "My opinion's right so back the fuck off" and offering no back up on why they're "Correct" and the other's are "Wrong" albeit, that's almost slightly what i just did. rambamslam: don't go around calling random people you don't know fuckers cause of their opinion, that's /very. immature and even more annoying. | that stanza's not about being stuck up or obsessed with himself, per se, and neither is the song. there are times when you just know you're everything that someone wants sometimes even when they don't know it themselves. the song's basically just him wondering why he doesn't mean anything to her when he's everything she wants and they both know it. i think it fits my relationship with my ex, though we both know, now at least, why i mean nothing to her. -shrugs- but if you wanna look at it your way, you're free to do so and who'm i to get in the way? | |
