There's been speculation that this song is about Carol Ann Harris, Lindsey's girlfriend from the end of the Rumours recording sessions in 1976 all the way through 1984. awellwrittensong said it all-- this song IS a masterpiece. It emcompasses a much darker side of the human psyche while also seeming helpless. I think it is about losing the woman he loved due to his anger management issues and, consequently, he had to look at himself in light of the cause behind the breakup.
