| I thought so, but I'm told the official lyrics say "help", and listening to the song, that does sound right. | |

From Ariel herself, as interviewed by New Release Tuesday: "The song...was basically a wakeup call for me when I realized that a lot of my friends from high school, the only thing we had in common anymore was that we all hated life at one point and we would get together, as youth often do, and talk about how crappy everything was and how much we wanted to get out of the town we were in and all that stuff and I realized that I had nothing in common with these people except for that negativity. So, it’s kind of me saying, “Let’s grow up.” I want to be healthy. I want to be happy. It’s not necessarily a popular view at a teenager’s age to want to be happy and there are definitely a lot of pity parties going on and it’s kind of wanting to move beyond that." http://www.newreleasetuesday.com/article.php?article_id=765 |

| Icon For Hire – Make A Move Lyrics | 14 years ago |

If you told me which specific lyrics were mistaken, perhaps I could change them. Based on comments from the band, I think you're partly right, but it's more that we see horrible things happening in the world (Ariel gave the specific example of sex trafficking) and yet refuse to do anything about it because of our own sense of self-preservation. What makes this song for me (lyrically, anyway) is the second verse where she admits that she's guilty of the same crime and doesn't know all the answers either, so it's not just her preaching to others. I agree, the song is really cool |

| Icon For Hire – The Grey (Scripted version) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| The original version is is pretty similar, except the arrangement is different and it has the extra line "You pull me in and keep me there, and tell me what I need to hear." I personally like the old version better, but this is nice too. | |

To be fair, all the members are Christians and their older songs had lyrics like "I wait for mercy in Your bleeding hand" and "How could a sinner be worth saving?", both clear Christian references. I think that, like a lot of Tooth and Nail bands, they just want to make good music and spread a positive message without alienating non-Christian fans. The Classic Crime and August Burns Red are doing the same thing. As for the song's meaning, I kind of had a different interpretation. To me, it's more about her putting on a facade to fit in with the popular crowd, and one day deciding to drop it and live life without worrying what others think. Looking at it through the members' Christianity, you could interpret it as rejecting the materialistic falseness of the world in favor of spiritual fulfillment, but I think it's a pretty open-to-interpretation song. |

| Owl City – Alligator Sky Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I think it's about overcoming intimidating circumstances. Alligators are predators, so he's talking about not only overcoming adversity, but blasting directly into it like a rocket and fulfilling your true potential...kind of like a rocket soaring into an Alligator Sky. I think the "you" in the chorus MIGHT refer to Jesus (i.e. Where was I when they crucified you?), since Adam IS a Christian, but that's just me. | |
| Linkin Park – The Catalyst Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think the meaning is pretty simple. Humanity, being human, screws up from time to time, and since this is rooted in human nature and thus "can't be out outfought, can't be outdone, etc.", the only thing we can do about it is pray that G-d will have mercy on us. I'm not sure about Chester's part, but I think he's talking about how he's trying to ignore humanity's screw-ups by closing his eyes, but he can't block out the sound. In other words, he's trying to ignore the problem and failing. I don't think it has anything to do with current events at all. I actually kind of like this song; it's more stripped down than traditional LP. I hope it's a sign that the new album won't have the same flaws as MTM did. Talent like this shouldn't be wasted on f-bombs and political rants. |

The only official BTF website is their myspace. The lyrics posted above come from a fan site (I don't think the band would interview themselves three times). Also: 1. Both Beau and Jared are Christians. 2. Screaming sometimes requires taking a breath between words, and sometimes in the middle of them. 2. Tell me if this makes sense: "I'm right here b----/But I'm alive and I'm still breathing". It'd be making the same point twice and putting a 'but' in between. "I'm what happens" makes more sense in context (the liar is himself). Assuming that, since there doesn't seem to be an explanation directly from Beau like there is for GWG, I would say it's about a sinner (or a bad person, if you prefer) blaming someone else for the the things he does, only to realize that he himself is responsible and will suffer the consequences. |

| Owl City – The Bird and the Worm Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| The lyrics are a bit confusing to me. Some parts sound almost bitter (the whole bird/worm analogy and the line "With friends like these, who needs enemies?"), but the rest sounds a lot like Adam's standard quirky love ballad. I think it's supposed to mean that in a proper relationship, there's really bad parts and really good parts, and the key to making it work is to enjoy both. Or maybe it's just saying that even fights and backstabbing are fun when you're madly in love. I dunno, anyone see it differently? | |
| Owl City – Cave In Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Seeing as Adam (aka Owl City) is a very outspoken Christian and at least one other song on the album (Meteor Shower) clearly reflects, I'd say that you could argue that the song is a metaphor for running away from temptation. This could be in a secular sense too, but the last few lines (Tie my handlebars to the stars so I stay on track/And if my intentions stray I'll wrench them away/Then I'll take my leave and I won't even look back") seem to fit the religious side. Basically, as I see it, the song is basically about getting out of a place/situation that's causing harm. Also, a bit of trivia: Matt Thiessen of Relient K does the overlapping vocals on this song and others on Ocean Eyes. | |
| The Classic Crime – Abracadavers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| In case anyone didn't read Matt's explanation of the lyrics, I'd say the key line is "ashes to ashes and dust to dust". This is a biblical line (though it works secularly too) meaning that our physical bodies were formed from dust and ashes and will return thence when we die, so there's no point in making them our primary concern. This ties in with the rest of the song, explaining that since we're all in the same boat, so to speak, we might as well be in it together and show concern for each other. | |

i'm listening to it right now... its definitely "slide the cotton off of your shoulders". I get the logic of the other way, but no. also, it's "LET'S take a shortcut" not "I'LL take a shortcut" |

| Owl City – Umbrella Beach Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
A couple things: 1. The first line is 'stems and gears', not 'sands and gears'. Other than that the lyrics seem to be correct. 2. As far as I can tell, the song is either meaningless innocent surrealism or it's talking about a place to go and be in peace when life is confusing and scary ("Can you feel the drops as it starts to rain/There's an underwater Ferris wheel/Where I found the missing link to this island chain"). He's probably talking about heaven/being in God's grace, but those who have a problem with religion can take it any way they want. |

| Haste the Day – Stitches Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
For those who haven't seen it, here's a summary of the video: There are two story threads. In the first one, a father sits down to dinner with his family and starts to drink, gradually degenerating to the point where he grabs at one of his children when the boy accidentally spills his drink. In the second, a younger guy is hanging out in a seedy-looking place with unsavory-looking characters. In both threads, there is a person in the room--the alcoholic's older son and the younger guy's friend, respectively--who is just sitting there and staring at the offender, there mouths literally stitched shut. At the climax, they both rip the stitches out, walk over to the offender, and say to them the five words: "You're worth more than this." The son hugs his father and the man comforts his friend while he cries. This pretty much fits in with everyone else's interpretation, but I think the song itself is giving the message in G-d's voice; "rip the seams that I've sewn you" might mean "I made it preferable for you to not say anything here, but you can prove yourself by overcoming it." |

| Nickelback – Savin' Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Like alot of songs, this could either be talking to G-d or a girl, but I'm going with the religious interpretation. The first line ("Prison gates won't open up for me") seems to imply that the singer considers himself so heavy with sins that prison wouldn't take him. The refrences to "falling with broken wings" continues this lyrical theme and "on the ledge of the eighteenth story" might be metaphorical, meaning "I'm at the last point where I can be saved; in another second, I'll be past the point-of-no-return". Nevertheless, at the chorus, the singer asks Him to give him one more chance, to "teach me wrong from right" and "show me what it's like to be the last one standing (possibly a reference to 'one eternal G-d')" All in all, a great song with great lyrics. |

| Daughtry – It's Not Over Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think it's simply about trying to come back after making a terrible mistake. The lyrics suggest it was relational, the video legal, but either way it's basically about redemption. | |
