| Stone Sour – Hell & Consequences Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Well, I'm relieved to say it doesn't appear to be about leaving Slipknot as Slipknot released yet another succesful album. True Slipknot tends to mitigate band member individuality, it seems to be intentional by assigning themselves numbers, wearing matching cover-alls, and masks. I do believe that despite that most Slipknot members do manage to stand out due to their talent. I should mention that this should not be about Slipknot, so I will quote Corey Taylor. I am watching my Stone Sour dvd currently which includes a live concert from Moscow. Corey says, "This song is about taking care of yourself and everyone you love. Do you understand what I say by that?" I think I do. He took care of himself by fixing alcoholism and depression, and so the people around him don't have to suffer those problems with him. Do what's right folks and don't drag down your loved ones with your unneccesary self-pity. Good job, Corey! | |

| Eagles – Hotel California Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| My first impression after finally paying this old song's due attention was that the song flows in many ways like a ghost story. For those of you into paranormal and paranormal fiction you will be familiar with a few staples of the ghost story. Driving alone (theres the story of the hitch-hiker who disapears after being picked up). Many hotels and inns are often haunted or are claimed to be for tourism purposes (CA being of course a big tourist spot). Another classic ghost story twist is the main charactor finding out that the person they have been talking to actually had died years ago "He said, 'We haven't had that spirit here Since nineteen sixty nine'. Spirit being both a reference to wine and the soul. There are also many references to Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, the beast (Satan), distant voices that sing the chorus. The references others have made to LA and drugs are also spun into the song. References to hedonism, CA excess, are definitely apparent. Finally there are many references to the Satanic Cult which I think ties into the Paranormal. I believe the Irish use the term "haunted" to refer to alcoholism. So again addiction meets ghostly stuff. Also, You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave!" seems to refer to dieing but your spirit is still locked up. The meanings of this song are layered and as phishman says that is the great thing about art. The song is about LA lifstyle, the paranormal, cults, and the blurry line between all of these. | |

| When I read the lyrics I thought of two things this song is about. The first is a Hindu belief that all Gods are incarnations of one God. That humans and everything else is also part of the one God. That this God manifests itself in so many forms to experience itself. And does so by the method of reincarnation and birth (the second thing). Everything the God then experiences is it's own illusion and we humans believe it to be reality. I hope that's accurate. | |

This song can be boiled down to child-like gloating. The "look at me" bit reminds me of kids saying look at me mom. Bike and handlebars is a child's achievement. The song also is a perpetual crescendo (which I love in music) and the lyrics also get escalated. Towards the end of the song it crescendos into global issues, monstrous powers. Pride is a dirty evil thing. RESPECT, that's what's up. The video is cool, found it on Youtube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afX6VYn48KE |

| Eighteen Visions – I Should Tell You... Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think the writer of this song is consumed with guilt because he's cheated on someone he loves. For those of us who have done this to someone we love know that there isn't a more awful feeling. Here's my breakdown: I watched the falling rain splash upon your face. I know those aren't your tears. (he's thinking about her crying) you know it's me and where I've been. (where have you been, where I've been are phrases associated with being unfaithful) it's just circumstances. (unfortunately when youre weak being unfaithful can happen, semi-accidently) don't let her down. (this news is going to disturb her) so I should tell you why it's so hard to tell you. you know it's me and where I've been and the million words I'm thinking. I burned my time today as I start to waste. (he did something wrong today and she already knows it, he's got to be an honest man and confess it anyway) you were my one and only and now I don't know why. (were my one and only says it all. It says she is no longer the only one) and I know what you're feeling tonight. and I know for now you're mine. (it's a risk to tell her what he's done because she will likely want to leave him once she knows for sure) I find that a lot of lyrics are subjective to our past experiences. I've told a friend in the past that I had feelings about her and maybe some of you are relating to that. I do want to mention that I haven't cheated or felt its guilt for 8 years or so but I do know what it's like. |
