| Wye Oak – Doubt Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
according to Wye Oak: if you should doubt my heart, remember this: i could lie to you if i believed it was right to do. if you should think instead i would forget all the lives i said were not meant for me, and meant for you. that would be the test. sadly i could not forgive only that. to doubt the only way that what was true before, is true today. what i have learned of you does not assure you bow before my will. but i believed it then, believe it still. oh i believe it then, believe it still. |

| Wye Oak – Hot as Day Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
according to Wye Oak: when the sun is its most bright, stare into its light, do not close your eyes. let it burn into your mind, then look left, look right. let it make you blind. oh, isn't that a fright, burned into eternal night, that someone decides is right. when the days run long and late, darkness gives me pause while i lie awake. sleep is never long enough, lying in this heat, i forget to breathe. oh, isn't that the way, sun hides itself away, still it's hot as day. |

| Wye Oak – Fish Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
according to Wye Oak: they who made you, they made me too. quiet like you, violent like you. i've seen you live wild in my dreams. when you return, go to the sea. air is your permanent struggle to breathe. when you return, go to the sea. gone, gone gone. you were never alone. i'll come home and raise you up to what's left. ghost of your voice, finally rests. open your eyes now to all that is next. don't be afraid now, you won't need me. you'll be at peace now, at last from the sea. you will forget, eventually, the life that you wasted that led to the sea. gone, gone gone (picking up your human pieces) you were never alone. i'll come home and raise you up to what's left. |

| Wye Oak – Civilian Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
according to Wye Oak: i am nothing without pretend, i know my thoughts can't live with them. i am nothing without a man, i know my faults but i can hide them. i still keep my baby teeth in a bedside table with my jewelry. you still sleep in the bed with me, my jewelry and my baby teeth. i don't need another friend when most of them i can barely keep up with. i'm perfectly able to hold my own hand but i still can't kiss my own neck. i wanted to give you everything but i still stand in awe of superficial things. i wanted to love you like my mother's mother's mother did, civilian. |

| Wye Oak – Dogs Eyes Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
according to Wye Oak: (and the song is called Dogs Eyes btw, it's plural) can't see yourself in evolution, the history of our creation, so dogs' eyes smiling scare you about dying. i can't shake this superstition, jesus give me your permission, and god's eye looks in like a ghost you don't believe in. someone hit me with this wish, and i cannot get rid of it: soft eyes, hard hands, a shovel, a garden, a deep hole, a secret, and water to feed it. a season of growing, and soon, everyone knowing. |

| Wye Oak – Holy, Holy Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
according to Wye Oak themselves: holy holy holy, there is no other story. holy only holy, it is madness seeking mastery. hold me hold me hold me, would you like to know me, a tongue without a mouth to feed, and only seeking agony. for the joys and secrets i have stored, here i lie awaiting my reward. attention for the blessed final count, the ties that hold your mind and mouth give out. no patience can contain this, all human joy is precious, and i alone should know this, and everyone should notice. holy holy holy, there is no other story, it is madness seeking mastery, we will be who we want to be. for the joys and secrets i have stored, here i lie awaiting my reward, attention for the blessed final count, the ties that hold your mind and mouth give out. oh, they will give out. |

after watching some live videos and acoustic versions, here is my new take: Holy, holy, holy There is no other story Holy, holy, holy It is madly seeking mastery Hold me, hold me, hold me Would you like to know me? A tongue without a mouth to feed And only seeking at your lead For the joys and secrets I have stored Here I lie awaiting my reward A tension for the blessed final cower The ties that hold your mind and mouth give out No patience can contain this All human joy is precious And I alone should know it And everyone should notice Holy, holy, holy There is no other story It is madly seeking mastery We will be who we want to be For the joys and secrets I have stored Here I lie awaiting my reward Attention for the blessed final count The ties that hold your mind and mouth give out All they will give out All they will give out All they will give out All they will give out |

| Wye Oak – Civilian Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| watched an acoustic performance, and i'm pretty sure it's "mother's mother's mother's DAD". believe it or not, the last plural of "mothers" should be possessive as in "mother's", possessing the noun "dad". makes more grammatical sense, but not necessarily lyrical sense. ha. | |

not a far stretch at all! definitely is "if we were wealth and..." after there it gets shaky... possibly something like "if we were wealth and / we were golden / on our own and / we will go free" i'm less sure of the rest now that you've got the section onto its correct start. if made the appropriate changes above. |

| Wye Oak – Two Small Deaths Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
addendum: "i've no heart strong and that's LA-STING to miss and to mourn"...maybe...but probably not. |
|
| Wye Oak – Two Small Deaths Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
i made some changes based on your interpretations... i can't do the "i've no heart strong enough i" part. i hear a consonant in there for sure, like an "L", but what i'm thinking is that perhaps it's something like "the world at its PAS-SING" where she elongates the syllables over multiple phrases. maybe something like "i've no heart strong and it's LA-STING to miss and to mourn." thoughts? |

together we will do this! haha i'm loving the "of what it is to be alone", i think that's totally right it's definitely "AND..." not "be..." and i'm thinking it might be something like "and have _____ at play"... thoughts? it almost sounds like she's saying "every instrument controls/contrived and ____ the sun out wide" does that do anything for you? and i think you're right about "and it gives us hope" which leads me to believe she's listing things here: "hope, desire, _____" and some other stuff. probably not "quiet car" but that's the best i can sound out. |

thank you! i updated above. i like all of your changes except "hiding in a stranger's body", i still think it's "hiding in a/the strangest pathway". |
|
| Wye Oak – Doubt Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
it's gotta be "all the LIES i said" not "lives" and probably the last line is "believed IT still" |
|
| Wye Oak – Hot as Day Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| it's not "birth, to eternal night" but rather "GO INTO eternal night" | |
| Wye Oak – Fish Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
i think it's "gone, gone, gone, you were never MINE." and "Ghost of your BONES finally rests Open your eyes now to all that YOU'VE left" and "I SAY they can make us again" and perhaps the line in the chorus is "I'll come home And raise you up to THE SKY" definitely not "what's left" let's keep working... |
|
| Wye Oak – Civilian Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| i agree with the thoughts/faults swap in the first verse and it most definitely is "but i CAN hide them". | |

my interpretation: Can see yourself in evolution The history of our creation So dog's eyes, smiling Scare you about dying I can't shake this superstition Jesus, give me your permission And God's eye looks in like a ghost You don't believe in Someone let you live this way And I cannot get rid of them Soft eyes, hard hands A shovel, the garden A deep hole, a secret In order to feed it A season of calling And to everyone knowing Soft eyes, hard hands A shovel the garden A deep hole, a secret In order to feed it A season of calling And to everyone knowing |

my interpretation: Holy, holy, holy There is no other story Holy, holy, holy It is blindly seeking mastery Holy, holy, holy Would you like to know me? And don't fall unless you're free And lonely, seeking _______ For the choice and secrets our heart's store You will lie and wait in my real world Attention for the blessing, for an old count A time stamp on your mind, and knock me out All they say is can we contain this? A human joy, His precious And I alone should know this And everyone should notice Holy, holy, holy There is no other story It is blindly seeking mastery We will be who we want to be For the choice and secrets our heart's store We will lie and wait in the real world Attention for the blessed, for an old count A time stamp on your mind, and knock me out Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah Hallelujah |

nice work rocketcar. i think i did adapt from your lyrics.wikia post. i've made some changes above using your take and reevaluating. i think it's "i'm living like a child NOW" sounds like one syllable not "at home" i don't think it's "i pay money for a second chance", seems like it should be two syllables not three, and it has a more open sound like the words "now" or "ouch" do. hmm... as far as the "poor old lover" line goes i think you're right that it has the word "never" in there, but i think that she's just elongating that word like never-er-er. the line after that "in te____ from these"?? is impossibly hard to make out. i don't think it's "spend your moment" sounds more like there is no closing before the "o" sound of "moment" causing me to believe it's the word "own" otherwise great work. i hit wye oak up on twitter to see if we could get some official lyrics but i got no response. haha. |

| Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Dull Life Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| i think it's about a dull suburban style life. it's essentially a prison cell. and the lies referred to are all of the data that we receive around us each day that tells us this is what we are looking for, cars, houses, gorgeous spouses, etc. | |

Proper Lyrics: I don't wanna give up again my love and live like a runaway Making beds in an alley way so I can dream of a better day Is there anyone left who will understand I am made of flesh and bone I tried to tell you on the telephone all I needed was a stepping stone This is the last time I'm gonna let you down It's finally over It's finally over Every time I try to go to sleep you flood my memory Though I live like an absentee all I care is that you reach for me I'm gonna burn that bridge and build build a home with our roots weaving underground Commitment had such a threatening sound we saw that wall and we tore it down This is the last time I'm gonna turn around It's finally over It's finally over This is the last time I'm gonna let you down It's finally over It's finally over This is the last time I'm gonna turn around It's finally over It's finally over This is the last time I'm gonna let you down It's finally over It's finally over Let me hold your hand my dear at least until the smoke has cleared Our love has turned to war tonight I don't know why I go in circles Would I be a fool to think that I could find recovery In every single wrong made right I don't know why I go in circles |

| Incubus – Admiration Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
i'm not sold on the second verse... "eh, don't get ahead of me, could we, Just this once see eye to eye? Could you want perhaps me? Ask me how it feels to vie?" the third line, sounds more like brandon is saying "but you won't _____ me" and then "ask me how it feels to vie" in the fourth line. i can't figure out that word, but in keeping true to the theme of the verse it seems that she always gets ahead of him and because of it they are unable to see eye to eye. the third line then would logically continue this theme, maybe referencing the battle/competition/challenge/vie that he feels in the fourth line. any help? |
