I completly agree with HattiIsTheNewThing, and would like to add "I'll be so happy, I could melt!", but it also forshadows Elphaba's own selfish ambitions, which she comes to terms with in No Good Deed. |

I think the song is not only a the final goodbye to the two witches, but also Elphaba trying one last time for Glinda to do the right thing and collapse the Wizard's tyranny. |

I think it shows the rejection Elphaba recieved from her father since birth.
I think the lines "Goodness knows the the Wicked's lives are lonely/Goodness knows the Wicked die alone" likely isn't Glinda trying to create public sympathy, merely just an attempt to put up her public image as all-loving and sympathetic. |
