| Mika – Elle Me Dit Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| He said in an interview that it's about all the horrible things a mother can say to a son to get him out of the house. And even though that's a little depressing, it's really just an awesome song to bounce around and dance to. | |
| Suckers – A Mind I Knew Lyrics | 14 years ago |

This song is fantastic, though I'm not really sure about the meaning. If I were to take a guess, it seems to me like it's about two people, possibly a guy and a girl, who are homeless, whether through their fault or not (though I'm leaning towards for a reason they caused). The main lines that make me feel so are the "Pour out the wine/Cardboard underneath our spines" With the transition from wine to sleeping on cardboard. And "Wandering in, this is not a spiritual thing" They're wandering around, but not for some great reason or higher purpose, but because they have no where to go. I feel like the girl isn't taking the situation very seriously, though. "Your heart is like a crippled demon, semen on your clothes/Kill everything I built around me, nervous I suppose." I feel like this further supports that the fact they lost everything is their fault. "Crippled demon" seems to imply that she was once much more powerful and destructive, though has since weakened. The guy seems to be acknowledging his own destructive tendencies, but is making excuses for them. As for the last verse I feel like just further emphasizes their downward spiral. "A Mind I Knew" I feel like it refers to recalling the person he was before. His situation has changed so drastically, and he knows its his fault. |

| I completely agree with this. As a person who periodically gets anxiety attacks, I have to say that the girl's lines describe rather accurately what it feels like. You feel isolated, confused, you push others away, and you doubt yourself on everything. The guy is talking her down from it and trying to get her back to the person he knows she really is. | |

| Totally in agreement. At the very end when he screams the "away"--I swear to God, my soul moves. That sounds so utterly cheesy, but I know no other way to describe it. There's just so much emotion...gah! Guy's a true artist. | |

Funny enough, I downloaded both of these songs at the same time, and so I heard them in a fairly short proximity when I was listening to my Recently Added playlist. The opening beats are VERY similar--so similar I couldn't tell them apart when they started playing. However, I feel like they're just slightly different enough in rhythm, and very different in tone, not to be a rip-off. I doubt the similarity was intentional. But yeah, pretty bad-ass song. Love him. |

| LCD Soundsystem – Dance Yrself Clean Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Not sure if these are the official lyrics, but I thought he was saying "Present company excepted" instead of "present company accepted." For one, the first is an actual phrase. I dunno, I thought it worked a little bit better since for the first part, I get the vibe he's talking shit about the company he's with, but he's pretending like he's not. | |

I absolutely love this song. The first time I heard it, I didn't think much of it, but after a few listens I really got how hauntingly beautiful it is. Honestly, to me it just feels like a woman trying to make it against seemingly insurmountable opposition. She's not the best person ever, and she could easily be overlooked, but she has substance. She's trying to accomplish something, but it keeps getting more complicated. She would love to be rescued from the situation, but I feel like she knows no one is going to do that for her, so she carries on. And I feel like "Jesus Pieces" must be sort of like some kind of exclamation. Like, "Jesus pieces! I stubbed my toe!" ...except not exactly. |

| Totally in agreement with the poster who said that this seemed like the perfect life soundtrack music. This song has a real haunting quality to it. | |
| The XX – Islands Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| While I don't think this song is as happy as some people are claiming, I don't think it's as sad, either. It seems to me that the singer has been searching for love for a while, and now she's found it. And while the singer seems captivated by her new love, she's also nervous. She's been wandering and searching for so long, that now to stay in one place seems strange, perhaps risky. Yet, despite her fears, she wants to try it. She wants to stay with her love. | |

| Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Down Boy Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure what this song is about, but just the general feeling of it really defines the Yeah Yeah Yeahs for me. It's sexy, grimy, and at the same time, strong. As for the meaning, all I really get is a girl in a bad situation because of a boy's attraction. She seems to be aware of her predicament, but plans to stick it through. The other posters are probably right about her being the other woman and covering for her lover. They'll cause drama if they're found out, so they have to be secretive about it. However, the guy seems to care significantly less than she does, hence why she seems to be the one doing the cleaning up. The "count me down" means that she agrees to it, but the "down, down boy" seems to imply that she wants him to back off in public. She's the one keeping it secret. God, I love this song. I love this band. |

Well, I'll comment. I love this song, especially the "We are just victims of the same situation." It seems to be about a couple in a war. They say they're in love and want to get married, but that might just be because of their dire circumstances. Their lives might end soon, so why not? I just get this sense from the song that their love might not be deep, and they're likely rushing into things, but who could really blame them? |

| Eagle Seagull – I'm Sorry, But I'm Beginning to Hate Your Face Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I quite like this song--very catchy. As for interpretation, I think it's fairly straightforward. It's about two friends who likely began with a flirtatious relationship. It seems like a romantic relationship looked like it would eventually develop, but then the girl went out with another guy. Because they were never going out, the original guy wants to pretend like he doesn't care, but he obviously does. He resents the other man, and he's beginning to resent the girl, though he still likes her so he can't stop seeing her. He feels like he's been duped, and he thinks (or perhaps hopes) the girl's actions are going to come back to bite her. There's a hint of wanting to get over her, but he can't just settle with a normal relationship. He goes over her letters, can't escape the feelings, and grows increasingly frustrated with his relationship with her. However, instead of talking about these feelings, he bottles them in. They don't talk about their relationship, what it could have been, what they might want it to be, or even how it got to be in its state. They avoid the subject of a possible love between the two of them altogether, and it's destroying any sort of relationship that they had in the first place. |
