The second part of this album, Bloom, seems to parallel the story of a girl who is coming of age (On The Sea), shedding something bad from her past and reigniting a focus on things that were once so important to her (New Year), experiencing the pains of second thoughts (Wishes) but ultimately finding peace (Irene). |

I think he very much wants to be in love but is too afraid to ruin things by being himself (a darker person) because he doesn't think she can handle it.
I love the lyric "Had my head in the oven so you'd know where I'll be." I think it means his brain will be fried - mindless, compliant and agreeable to the person she knows him to be. |

I think this song is talking about breaking up. It could be that the narrator is wanting to lay out just what that means for the other person, hence the "in a matter of time, you would slip from my mind." It's about not knowing what you have until it is gone.
The end makes me think the reason for break up is because its too controlling of a relationship (maybe even abusive) when she sing's "only time can run me" and "more, you want more." |

Hey I think you are right! I re-read the catcher in the rye over christmas break and have been listening to this album all day and everything you explained makes sense. Reminds me of that Wilco song "Via Chicago" and how the end could be a reference Fahrenheit 451. Wonder if it is intentional or not? |
