This song is running through my head right now. I think it's about two people who really challenge each other but go together well as a couple. The lines: "No one is harder on me than myself Or so it seems" seem to indicate that the girl being sung about is harder on him, and challenges him to be a better person. And like everyone is saying here, people don't think they can make it as a couple but they make each other stronger and compliment each other. And obviously they care about each other a lot.
