Ed Sheeran – The City Lyrics 13 years ago
I think this song is about being alone in a big city. It seems strange in that kind of position, but the fact of the matter is, no matter how busy you are, things are a bit more hollow and empty without somebody to crawl home to at the end of the day. Things feel a bit bigger and less friendly.

'And my lungs hurt
And my ears bleed
With the sound of the city life.'

Also the 'What I do isn't up to you' gives me the impression that it's somebody that's just moved out of home. Defying their parents.

And they've found themselves a little bit alone. That line about finding company 'when I need it' really hits home. But you can't back out, it'll only just proves your parents right. So you struggle on with life.

Vampire Weekend – Jonathan Low Lyrics 15 years ago
Maybe it's about a betrayal of some kind? The person could have betrayed or "killed" a best friend and this person was identified and labeled with the betrayal from a group of people?

For all that I know, he died
Killer of Jonathan Low

Words were cried at night
In unforgiving tones

And I do agree with the war interpetation, but I feel that the above could have some intergration of meaning?

They all turned their backs
But they all knew his name
And if he could return
They'd probably do the same

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros – Desert Song Lyrics 16 years ago
These were on the official website, but let me know if they're wrong.

In short, this song is amazing. The music is of dream-like quality, especially the quietness of the guitar at 4:09 onwards, as the song is brought down.

The meaning? I'll take a shot in the dark, but I think it's about finding yourself, life beckoning beyond the front door, freeing yourself from the suppression of family influences - infused with an air of teenage rebellion. Definitely something everyone can relate to.

The desert talked about could refer to personal privacy, solitude for one to be able to breathe and make decisions without anyone trying to sway you or make you believe otherwise.

I think that there's a rather dark undertone to this song, as well. In the chorus, there's echo-ey vocals that I think say, "Help me, I'm at a boyfriend's", though I could be wrong. Not to mention the shadow of a distant scream at 4:26. These together could be contradictory to the meaning above, almost like a warning: sure, you're freeing yourself of supression and pressure by running to the desert, but things happen and people take advantage of you while you are in that solitary state of being.

Anyway, that's just what I think. Feel free to contradict.

Paramore – Ignorance Lyrics 16 years ago
This song was actually helpful in in getting over a guy. We're both from difeent walks of life, but that hadn't deterred me.

"Where's your gavel?
Your jury?
What's my offense this time?
You're not a judge
But if you're gonna judge me
Well, sentence me to another life"

"When you swear it's all my fault
'Cause you know we're not the same, no
We're not the same, no
Oh, we're not the same"

After months of waiting around for him, I got sick of it. I only existed to him when it was to his convenience: about schoolwork and stuff.

"Well, you treat me just like another stranger
Well, it's nice to meet you, sir
I guess I'll go
I best be on my way out"

So I severed the conection, if we even had one in the first place. I'm so glad I did it, broke the ridiculous cycle I'd been stuck in for months.

"This is the best thing that could've happened
Any longer and I wouldn't have made it
It's not a war, no
It's not a rapture
I'm just a person, but you can't take it"

In short, awesome song. Thanks Paramore. :D

The Black Eyed Peas – Meet Me Half Way Lyrics 16 years ago
First off, awesome song.

Next, the meaning. I'll take a shot in the dark with this one. I'm thinking it could be about friends, and it was perhaps turning into something more (For the sake of conversation I'll assume Fergie's the girl's POV and so forth), and the girl felt it. She confesses her feelings/devotion to him and the guy has no idea how to react, so they fall out for a while.

The guy realises he loves and misses her, ("I spent my time just thinkin thinkin thinkin bout you, every single day yes, I'm really missin' missin' you") but is perhaps a little afraid to make the leap. The girl really wants them to be together, but there's only so much she can do ("Took my heart to the limit, and this is where I'll stay, I can't go any further than this, I want you so bad it's my only wish").

All she can really hope now is that he'll get off his pedestal and meet her halfway. In the meantime, she'll be waiting.

Paramore – Brick by Boring Brick Lyrics 16 years ago
As someone with not a very squeaky clean past, I retreated into a world of books and movies, preferring not to co-operate with reality.

"She lives in a fairy tale
Somewhere too far for us to find
Forgotten the taste and smell
Of the world that she's left behind"

And then my family moved. New environment, new school (I'd previously been in an all-girl school, this one was co-ed), a lot of new stuff. I ended up liking this guy ("Her prince finally came to save her") that I thought liked me back, but he was just stringing me along ("But it was a trick, and the clock struck twelve"), and I had to do a lot of rebuilding. ("Well, make sure to build your home, brick by boring brick, or the wolf's gonna blow it down")

My world of books and movies had given me a very specific idea of what I wanted my guy to be, and I'd tried to shoehorn this other guy into it ("Well, you built up a world of magic, because your real life is tragic").

Now this song turns up with this timing, and I'd swear it was written about me if I didn't know better. What with all my experiences this past year, and my about to be a legal adult in a few months, I think this song is trying to tell me something.

"Well, go get your shovel
And we'll dig a deep hole
To bury the castle, bury the castle"

Putting this part of my life to rest, the trauma, the fantasy, is something I'm not particularly willing to do, but maybe it's about time I did - start living in the real world with real people.

An innocent - but not so innocent - girl toying around with a guy. Flirting with him, as well as flirting with the idea of being with him. Dancing around within his reach.

I agree with Reedstar, the couple can make it with a few fights along the way - afer all, no fights at all would be plain boring.

The general feel of the song is so fantastic. Gotta love the backing vocals and the video.

La Roux – Tigerlily Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it's describing the tango of having a crush on someone. Cat and mouse.

"But our communication
Is telepathy
What you give is what you get"

"Have you ever felt
Like you're being followed?
Or watched the ones that held your stare?
Turned around to see who's behind you
To find there's no one there?"

You feel like someone's watching you, but they pretend not to be looking when you catch them.

"Lurking in the dark
There's someone who breathes you night and day
There's a friend who wants so much more
And if they can't have you
They'll never let you walk away"

Possibly unrequited love? Becoming obssessed to the point where it's unhealthy.

"I can see you burning with desire
For a kiss"

"I know you better than this
I could be here when you call
I'll make you top of the list"

The other person WANTS to do something, but they're holding themselves back, and you're waiting for them to make their move, knowing when they finally do so, you'll welcome it warmly.

In short, a fantastic song. the techno is haunting: in a good way, of course. Really addictive.

Coldplay – The Hardest Part Lyrics 16 years ago
Has anyone heard the live LeftRightLeftRightLeft version? One word: Magic. Purely piano, and he isn't trying to hit the really high notes: it's velvety smooth, mellow; and the backup vocals in the chorus makes it more magical. The singing, cheering crowd isn't a put off at all.

Anyway, the song itself is wonderfully bittersweet. Like life. Everything has double meaning, double feeling.

"Everything I know is wrong
Everything I do, it just comes undone
And everything is torn apart"

Life keeps changing: just as we get a handle on the rules, they change.

"Our silver lining the clouds
Oh and I...
Oh and I...
I wonder what it's all about"

Why do bad things happen to good people? Because we can't appreciate the good without the bad. Everything happens for a reason, we just have to figure out the reason (Also, that particular verse in the LeftRightLeftRightLeft version catches my breath every time).

Jonas Brothers – Fly With Me Lyrics 16 years ago
I can't believe there isn't much comments on this song! I agree with jadore music, two people cherishing time together no matter the length: at least they have that time.

I also get the impression that they're trying to get closer but something is holding them back? "If it's you and me right now, that'd be all right" because at least they have that particular person in their lives.

"Now the past has come alive
And given meaning and a reason
To give all I can
To believe once again"

. . . maybe one of them's been hurt before, and the other can help restore their faith.

"Maybe you were just afraid
Knowing you were miles away
From the place where you needed to be
And that's right here with me"

. . . something keeping them apart? That particular verse just brings tears to my eyes.

Just my particular take on it, LOVE this song. Can't wait to get the album.
