| I love this song so much i listen to it over and over and it never gets old! I think it's about someone who is in love with a person who is sad or depresed about their life and he just wants to protect her and be everything for her and give her everyting she needs and He wants to take her away to somewhere warm and new so that she can finally be happy, and he belives that she'll be happy with him. It's an amazing song! I can totally relate! | |

I think the part about $20 bills is not about smoking weed its about snorting coke hense the "Inhaling thrills through $20 bills" you don't inhale weed throught money. This song is about drug addiction and alcohol addiction. These people aren’t your friends is referring to other addicts that you only are hanging out with because they wanna get high. Cocaine and alcohol.The place that’s a prison is yourself, not being able to get away from the drugs. It doesn’t mater how far you go or where you go there are always going to be “guards” or people with the drugs.He knows there are other things out there, a better life a clean sober life but all he does is sit at home watching TV and watching how other people live. The fact that the TV was too bright may be because he was hung-over. He’s trying to convince himself that it’s not a big deal by saying it’s a just a party we’re just having fun but he knows that’s not true. And possibly he’s doing it by candle light because he’s spent all his money on drugs and has no electricity. He wants to get out of the addiction cycle but then all he wants is more “another drink.” |

Sometimes a Promise ring Does mean a promise of Abstinence till marriage but it can also be worn to signify a commitment to a monogamous relationship, which is what I think their trying to say here with the title. "You told me that you loved me, I started tearing down those walls. I really started to trust you but you set me up to take the fall." She broke her promise to keep loving him forever. I think he's in love with a girl that’s either married or in a relationship with someone else. I think the girl and him used to be together but they split up and now she only goes to him when she's mad at her current boyfriend. He feels like she's just using him but he loves her so he lets himself be used by her. I can totally relate…This song makes my heart break a little more every time I hear it.And no I'm not "emo" its just a good fuckin song! |

| I can't belive no one has commented on this song!I always thought it was one of their best. It totally reminds me of the town i grew up in and the kids that lived there. Always this front of being such a perfect suburb with glamorous houses and cars and all but really they were all just a bunch of "dreamers... whores....[and] worn out cars. Everyone had such big freams when they were younger but no one ever actually leaves they stay there just like their parents and their parents before them.The perfect kids are really just as fucked up as ever with drugs and sex and alcohol but their always trying to hide it. | |

So until just now reading the other comments I actually never thought of this song as about a prostitute, but I suppose now that I hear that and reread it, that does make sense. But BEFORE I found that out like when I used to listen to this song with my Dad I always thought I would like to be a girl like the one in the song! I realize that sounds bad now! But let me explain! She’s like this rich girl who drinks expensive wine, has amazing parties with famous people, and money to spare! “Caviar and cigarettes!” They sound so high class and elegant in this song. I can see this gorgeous girl who everyone falls in love with because even though she’s rich she’s also “extraordinarily nice”. “Gunpowder-dynamite” Just sounded like she was a hot chick! Rereading the “guaranteed to blow your mind” part definitely makes me think otherwise now….. To avoid complications she never kept the same address” Always sounded kind of cool to me like she was just Free! Free to go wherever she wanted whenever she wanted! No need to stay in one place, nothing and no one to hold her down! That was the main reason I wanted to be Miss Killer Queen! “Playful as a pussycat - she’ll drive you wild!” She’s hot and fun and playful, like just what ever guy wants but she’ll drive you wild because she’s so unobtainable! …… I’ll still think of it this way because I don’t wanna think that I wanted to be a prostitute when I was 14! This is my first post on so go easy on me! So here it goes…. I think is the singer is a shy guy, and he’s very shy around girls (maybe he’s never even had a girlfriend and/or he has bad luck with girls) and he’s trying to change and come out of his shell “coming out of my cage” because he wants more in life (“because I want it all”) and doesn’t want to be lonely anymore and he’s been doing “Just fine” so far. So he finally gets the nerve to tell this girl he knows(maybe a friends girlfriend) that he likes her and she either kind of likes him too or maybe she’s just mad at her boyfriend at the time and so they ended up kissing. Now, he really likes her and she tells him that she likes him too. So he gets his hopes up but then she ends up back with her boyfriend and he’s left wondering why she said the things she said …“Swimming through sick lullabies” (all the lies she told him) And when he asks her why she said those things she’s “choking on her alibi’s” (she doesn’t know what to tell him because really she’s just been playing with his emotions.) So she eventually tells him “Look! It was only a kiss, why are you making such a big deal about it?” So he’s trying to convince himself that”It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss”. And when she’s around he tries to act like everything is cool by being “Mr. Brightside” Putting on a fake smile and trying to look on the “bright side” of things even though he can’t truly see a bright side to it yet. But when he goes to bed and he’s all alone “Now I’m falling asleep” He dreams about her with her boyfriend and it makes him sick “And my stomach is sick” (which anyone who’s been cheated on can understand!!) And in his imagination “It’s all in my head” he can see everything their doing and he can’t make the images go away! The parts “I just can’t look, it’s killing me” and “now their taking a cab” is what makes me think that maybe it’s a friend of his and the girl is his friend’s girlfriend. So their hanging out at his house and smoking cigarettes “he’s having a smoke and she’s takin a drag” their sharing a cigarette and being all cute together and he’s trying to act like everything is fine but seeing them together is just killing him inside! “Just let me go” Is the jealousy. He wants it to stop because he wants things the way they were before and because he knows that he can’t have this girl and it’s making him crazy! and” Taking control” “But it’s just the price I pay” For opening up and reaching out and trying to be confident and come out of my cage. He’s saying well this is what I get for trying. And for getting my hopes up just to be let down. (I know the feeling) “Destiny is calling me” has me a little confused though. Maybe he’s just trying to say that the experience has “opened his eager eyes” and that even though he still wants her, she is not his destiny so he has to keep looking on the bright side of things even when he doesn’t feel like there is a Brightside????? “I never”…. Will fall for a friends girl again of fall in love or come out of my cage again, get my hopes up, let my guard down ….it could be a million things here. Sorry boys...girls just suck!!!
