J.R. Richards – Ghost Of Sorrow Lyrics 16 years ago
So much of the theme of this record was inspired by loss and healing. I unfortunately had many friends and family members pass away right before and during the writing of this record and it was hard to write with out those things on my mind. Dealing with loss was something new for me and because writing has always been my out let for both joy and in this case sadness.

The ghost in "Ghost of Sorrow" is that sadness coming to visit me late in the night. And after being face to face with it, I deciding I would no longer fear it.

J.R. Richards – Clearwater Lyrics 16 years ago
"This song was inspired by my hope that the world would soon heal itself. Watching events unfold on TV was maddening and after seeing so much negativity day in and out and I found myself turning off the TV one night and wandering over to the piano, sitting there for only a moment before starting to write. "Clearwater" was done an hour later. Most likely the fastest song I've ever written."

J.R. Richards – The Far End Of The Black Lyrics 16 years ago
"This song was inspired by the feeling that I was finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. And though it felt good to get this song on paper, I felt at the time that it wasn't good enough to make it on a record and set it aside.

Later though, after having a few friends tell me that they thought I should finish it, I made a quick demo of it (just acoustic guitar and vocal) and included it with the other demos I sent to the musicians who would be playing on the record. This is where the song turned a corner. You see with most of the songs on the record I had a very specific idea of what I wanted. But with this one I had none.......... they made it come to life. And when I listen to it now it sounds like a classic record to me. I was fortunate to have some amazing players on the record. Drummer Kenny Aronoff, Bass Player Chris Chaney and guitarists Phil X and Rusty Anderson."

J.R. Richards – A Beautiful End Lyrics 16 years ago
"I had just moved to Florida and was just beginning to write songs for what was going to be my first solo record when one of my good friends Michael Godard called me. His daughter Page had been fighting cancer for quite a while and had just past away at 15. He asked if I could sing at her service......so I immediately jumped on a plane and headed back to California.

That day was a powerful one........ I was amazed at how much she had affected the world at such a young age and carried the stories I heard that day with me as I boarded the plane taking me back home. By the time I landed in Florida I had finished the lyrics to the song."

J.R. Richards – I Will Give You Life Lyrics 16 years ago
"A friend of mine Mark Thompson, (who is Mark from the Mark & Brian show) had contacted me and asked if I would be interested in writing a song for a movie he wrote and would soon be filming. A horror/thriller called "2:13".

I have really enjoyed writing for movies in the past and ask how soon he could get a copy of the script to me. Once I had it I decided to write a song from the killers perspective.......... It was a great excuse to write something a little more twisted than I would normally write. The song "I Will Give You Life" ended up being the end title theme for the movie and is a slightly different version from the one that appears on " A Beautiful End"."
