Modest Mouse – Satellite Skin Lyrics 16 years ago
I think HugeMMFan got it, but to me, still being in school, makes me think of social cliques, and the "popular" kids.

"If you break these moth wing feelings
Powdering dust on your fingers"

It's about people wanting to be popular, the first verse speaks the most about this to me anyways, Moth Wing feelings are the drama they make up, about how they overact everything, but they aren't strong, they're moth wings, they can get broken up or changed so quickly.

"We know we're not praying we're kneeling
Hard enough just to say you believe them"

You really want to get in with them, but yet you're hiding it from them since you don't want to be too eager, they say things that are, well, dumb, getting back to moth wing feelings, and you agree to try and get closer, but it's hard to agree.

"Well how the heck did you think you could beat them
At the same time that you're trying to be them
Hard enough just to say you don't need it when they
Took it up while you were still eating
Well satellite, satellite skin"

You think you're better and you can beat them, but you're just trying to fit in, you act like you don't want it, but it's true you do and it keeps getting brought up, like even when you're eating. You're satellite skin, orbiting around the clique.

Now, I know that this isn't the kid of stuff Isaac writes about, and MMFan probably has it, as a lot of MM songs are about Religion, and it still is from the atheist viewpoint, but from this time in my life this is how I interpret it. I know I only did the first verse, but it's late and I'm pretty tired :)
