Well this song is sad and special to me - it was out when I went through a sort of 'civil war' of my own- and lost my friends and had to do the hardest thing in my life, give up my baby for adoption (I was 15). The whole song is symbolic for me of someone who had a really hard time in life and moves on.. |

I hear this song was written as sort of an apology to Lisa and Wendy of the Revolution.. they split suddenly and because Prince just felt it was time for him to move on.
On a side note- Wendy Melvoin joined Prince on stage at his concert 07.07.07 in Minneapolis- I had some tears.. |

Listen- when I first heard this song- I was like 'nah- don't like it much' but listen to the GUITAR in this and it's incredible.. I seen him perform this one at the 07.07.07 concert in Minneapolis - whew.. it was well above 'kick-ass'. |

I just wanted to comment about his baby/wife story. He was married at the time of this song- however this was made before his wife was pregnant. The album/CD that came out when his wife was pregnant was Emancipation- a 3 disc set. The first song on disc 1 was 'Sex in the Summer' and the background beat was actually the real sounds of his baby's heartbeat in-utero. His wife at the time- Mayte, carried the baby until like 7 months or so- and Prince and Mayte had a premature son who was born with a rare disease- I forget the scientific name - but it was coined the 'clover-head syndrome' because people tend to have heads like clovers and their brains can't function correctly. Sadly, the baby passed days after it was born in Minneapolis Children's Hospital. Prince and Mayte were advised to not have more as Prince carries the trait and it could be very likely another child would turn out the same. I am not 100% sure of this- but I believe they named the child Christopher.

Anyway- Prince is a GENIUS..and I love him. |

I agree with nevy.. Calhoun Square is located by Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis... I am over that way quite frequently... the thing is- years ago- I think in the mid 90's Prince had a store across the street from Calhoun Square- I can't remember the name anymore- but this song almost sounds like an advertisement for that. |
