Rx Bandits – The Last Words of Nicholas Berg Lyrics 16 years ago
couple of corrections (i think) to these lyrics:

"It's all about revenge now, we'll all be leverage, numbers never matter as long as they fall in your favour"

"Recreate the problem you started off to solve"

i think it's "groaning in their guts" not 'holding'

the 'quiet' bit:

"Later in the desert the people start to fall
The commands of the officer are equal to the law
And nowhere in their minds can they find a reason for
Palates full of foreign sand and eyes filled with scorn"

anyway. this song is amazing, really powerful - Nicholas Berg was an american hostage beheaded in Iraq a few years ago. i think the song's basically saying how futile the war is, how it's achieved nothing, the soldiers hate being there ('nowhere in their minds can they find a reason for' etc) and the people higher up the army chain of command never have to deal with the realities of war ('your palms are never rough'). the bit about 'revenge' could relate to the fact that Berg was supposedly killed in retaliation for the torture & humiliation of prisoners at Abu Ghraib.

Rx Bandits – Please Come Home Lyrics 16 years ago
love this song! i know it's hard to make out the lyrics but i think some of the lines above should be:

"oh please take the sewing off the stitches"

"yells approval to the baby son"

"with her body bare and beautiful and contemplates the clothing which to drape around her frame"

"swallow the sorrow with a chaser and it wins" - about drowning his sorrows

basically i think the song's about a casual thing he has going with a girl, seems like he's more into it than she is. he tries to act nonchalant but really he's falling for her despite his attempts not to, to avoid getting hurt. so he's trying to persuade her that it should be something more - 'and listen to my promise even if i can't convince you'

Thrice – See You in the Shallows Lyrics 16 years ago
if it was about suicide why would they care how deep the water was?!!! fucks sake.

this song is about having doubts about just following the crowd and fitting in ie 'taking the plunge' and just going along with everyone else, as has happened to so many others who have had doubts - 'this cliff has been well worn by ignorance'. also it refers to letting everyone else make your decisions for you - 'it's so comforting to know i'll never have to think again'. but then the 'narrator' just decides to go along with it all anyway, 'it looks deep enough from here, i'm diving'. It's written from a fictional perspective of someone who just ends up following the crowd despite their own doubts, and the lyrics are meant to highlight the naivety of their thoughts. ie 'that can't be blood, the water here is far too blue'

Rx Bandits – Taking Chase As The Serpent Slithers Lyrics 16 years ago
The lyrics above are slightly wrong, and the bit that's missed out is really important as it changes the whole meaning of that part of the song. In the CD booklet the lyrics for the bit after the 'sneaky sneaky serpent with those tricks up your sleeve" are:

"Lips like licorice but you can't catch me, deep between the covers listening to *her heart's beat*, yeah"

I know it doesn't sound like that's what he sings, but that's what it says!

SO i would interpret that line as saying that when he's with his girlfriend it's the only time he doesn't want heroin ('...but you can't catch me'). also this fits in with the line 'when i'm inside her I don't think twice' - meaning when they're together he doesn't need heroin - this line doesn't make sense with regards to heroin, as it would have to be 'when she's inside me' surely??

that bit changes the whole meaning of the song to something a bit more positive, saying that love can overcome addiction/is just as powerful as addiction. or something.

agree that the rest of the 'she' references in the song are metaphors for heroin though.

[posted this before as a reply rather than a comment...doh]
