It's about his life, and how he doesn't and didn't intend to be famous or anything like that at all. 'You're looking down at me I'd rather stay below Than have you staring up at me There's nowhere i want to go' --In his interviews he said he never intended to get popular. To me he is one of the most humble musicians ever. 'Ay, this business of how long we try to stay alive Why to be here you first got to die So I gave it a try And what do you know Time was so long ago' --He reflects upon his drug addiction and how he now sees things in a different light and embraces things in a different way. He was pretty much dead when he was addicted to drugs. 'I can't play it safe But I might just in case' --Refering back to his drug addiction and how it might be a better idea to stay off drugs. |

It's all in what the listener thinks. I don't think there is one true meaning. Well when he says 'dreams make up your life', I think he means that he things a lot about things that he could have, maybe like dreaming of a relationship, he plays life throughout his mind, how he sees it in his mind and not looking what is real/ in reality. 'Wonder what it is that makes the world turn slower Wonder what it is that makes me feel so mad Everyone that talks to me I so wish wouldn't I wouldn't even care except I feel so bad Why is there no one in my life' -I think this means that there are people in his life who he doesnt want to talk to, but he talks to them anyway. Maybe some of those people that are in his life aren't always there for him, but at least he has physical people there...he doesn't have someone who can love him...he is empty. He doesnt really like being lonely but he feels that it is best for him, even thought the people there don't truly care for him. That's how i feel about that part of the song. Very deep and emotional song. |
