Wolfmother – Joker & The Thief Lyrics 16 years ago
The Joker is "always living in the final hour", which could mean that all non-believers will remain on Earth in the final moments before the Rapture while all of the believers will safely watch Earth's apocolypse from heaven.

Also, vagabond in Latin means "purposeless wandering". When Patty is running from UNITE, there is no safe haven left on Earth, making her attempts to find safety pointless or purposeless. She is moving slow, realizing that there is nothing she can do to avoid the mark of the beast once "the glow" of God's presence on Earth is gone.

"Joker and the Thief In the Night" meaning that this is the story of the relationship between a non-believer and God himself.

Pretty epic stuff if it is true.

Said the joker is a wanted man,
He makes his way all across the land,
Always laughing in the midst of power,
Always living in the final hour,
There is always sweet in the sour,
We are not goin' home,
Can you see the joker flying over,
As she's standing in the field of clover,
Watching out everyday,
I wonder what would happen if he took her away,
What you see well you might not know,
You get the feelin' comin' after the glow,
The vagabond is moving slow,
All the people that he sees in the night,
Hold their dreams up to the light,
The wild beast is searching for sight,
Tell you the story 'bout the the joker and the thief,
Of the night

To me at least, it seems as though it's telling the tale of Patty's escape (referring to the wanted MAN and taking HER away, implying it could be any non-believer) from UNITE and her eventual capture and death when she is cornered on the bridge. (we're not going home tonight)

In the film, the preacher states that God/Jesus will return "like a thief in the night" to save his children from the Rapture. The lyrics read "All the people that he sees in the night, Hold their dreams up to the light" as if Jesus Christ sees his believers as they pray for salvation on the eve of the Rapture as he comes to save them. The wild beast (the Joker?) is searching for sight (enlightenment?) but it's too late when Patty (non-believers?) finally realizes the consequences of her choices?

Again, this is PURE speculation based on a film I've read about (never saw) but there are some interesting things going on here that seem to join the three concepts of the film, the song and the Joker together. Whether it's correct or not I had fun thinking about it. What do you guys think?

This is complete speculation but check this out. I'm not religious or anything but I heard about this old christian film a few days ago and I came to see if it was related to this song. No one has mentioned it so I thought I'd throw it out there.

Some historians consider the Greek emporer Nero to be the "Beast" or false prophet that is referenced in the book of Revelation. In 1972 a christian film titled "The Thief In the Night" was released where all non converted citizens receive the "mark of the beast" as per the orders of UNITE. We later discover God was attempting to bring his children to safety in heaven before the antichrist returns to Earth (in the form of UNITE). The main character of the film, who doesn't take the offer to be saved seriously, continues on with her secular life. She awakens to discover that all of the believers including her husband have followed God to heaven and she is left to face the rapture alone.

During the time when Jokers or Jesters were prevalant, they had the power to make political and derogatory remarks and say things to the king that most others would be killed for. Basically, they had the power to mock and disregard the "powers that be" without penalty.

In the film, the main character has the ability to mock the wishes of the "powers that be" and pays the ultimate price at the film's conclusion.
