Either through death or a break-up, we lose people, making our lives fall apart sometimes, and making us lose control and get the situation out of hands. "Pulling the band-aid slow" comforts the ones that lost someone, as they get a chance to sort through the situation. The protagonist of the song has two wants, two wishes: That whoever he's leaving behind won't be left alone, and to "freeze, explode, and go home". He wishes that time could stop, release the pressure growing because of the situation, and hope that it's stable for life to return to normal. |

"As we sink with a darkened sky and we barely had time to set it right" is almost like that first line of "Affirmation" by Savage Garden. Letting the sun set upon an argument. I found that "final shot strike" to be a sort of break up, [doesn't have to be in a romantic way], but it's expected. "With no surprise", the relationship is paper strong, being wrecked by the "storm", careless decision like the captain drinking on his ship. However, they recognized that they can still "float", "crack a joke and smile", and still be with each other, happily, as "eyes squint" representing intimacy and caring as he [dies or goes to sleep]. The hands may be seperated, but the arms are still together.
