Florence + the Machine – What the Water Gave Me Lyrics 13 years ago
Though it obviously wasn't intended, having read Zack Parsons' "Liminal States", this song has a creepy possibly alternate interpretation to it.

Pixies – Hey Lyrics 14 years ago
The man in this story wants desperately to break out of his disgusting, mundane life filled with complacency. The tragedy is found that in the face of circumstance and emotion, he is simply unable to. Though the song obviously involves a woman (or more) and perhaps varying amounts of love and sex, but to me the core here is always a tale of personal powerlessness.

Arcade Fire – Windowsill Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm not convinced it was their intention, but beyond the message about the US in particular, from an anarcho-libertarian perspective, this wording in this song seems very anti-state in general. Pretty much every line in this song can be seen as a metaphorical complaint with the way the state works, and it's effects on society.

Radiohead – The Butcher Lyrics 14 years ago
Hahaha oh man did I wreck those lyrics when I first submitted them. To be fair, Thom was fairly unclear on this track, especially when only poor quality leaks were available.

The Rolling Stones – Sympathy for the Devil Lyrics 15 years ago
Something occurred to me while I was watching Supernatural of all things, I think the line about troubadours is talking about the troubadours selling their souls to the devil for musical prowess.

From the wikipedia article at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crossroads_%28culture%29#Spirituality

"It should be noted, however that the idea of selling your soul for instrumental skills pre-dates the American South as several virtuoso classical musicians such as Paganini had stories told about selling their soul for music prowess (and that story may reference back to medieval troubadour doing something similar). The selling your soul for guitar power story has become a staple in both rock and metal guitarists."

Not quite sure about the Bombay part, but this seems to make sense in context of this song.

Ugly Cassanova – Barnacles Lyrics 15 years ago
Who's the moron that changed the lyrics, especially the book of the stars and brackish lake lines, so they're totally off?

Modest Mouse – Dashboard Lyrics 15 years ago
So who's the dick who changed the previously correct lyrics to "...but we still matters where we do it standing out like Swiss cheese switch east and west from right every thought was your surprise in the evening was condolences." And "had to stow it even except these times johns with bonny at johns.".

Sorry but the lines that were there before were both correct and made sense, those are just gibberish.

A Perfect Circle – Pet Lyrics 16 years ago
I know some liberal will yell at me for this, but this describes Obama and his administration perfectly. The lyrics bring to mind exactly what a socialist America would be like.

Aside from the typical hold-your-hand attitude liberals have, this song also presents the mass censorship trying to be forced upon anything preaching different views than the current governments.

Sure, this song was written several years before the majority of America knew who Obama was, but I just interpret this way due to the way things have been lately.

Tool – Third Eye Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't have much to add aside from that I interpret this song in purely philosophical terms as I feel (despite the obvious) references to drugs diminish the value of the song. The sort of nihilistic/existentialistic view presented, and the feelings of transcendence here when the speaker describes the opening of their "third eye" are too powerful a message for me to think of as attributed to drugs.

Jesus does that sound pretentious, but hey, it's just my personal view.
