| Tonic – Take Me As I Am Lyrics

Perhaps this song is autobiographical about Emerson. He mentions never knowing his father, and he has talked about how his father was schizophrenic, which would keep one from 'truly knowing' that person. Also, his father disappeared when he was young, so he never got a full chance to know his father.
This song is probably the one song that strikes close to home for me more than any other song I have ever heard. It has very similar circumstances to things that have happened in my life (I truly never knew my father). I was going through a divorce and some other personal issues when I first heard this song, and it was like someone had written it about me at the time. I listened to this song more times than I could possibly count, and it gave me inspiration to keep fighting and trying. I am now in a much happier place, and I thank Emerson Hart for writing a song that gave me (and I am sure has given others) an anthem. |

I'm not sure what this song is about, if I could ask Emerson Hart one question, it would be to ask him what his inspiration was for this song. It is one of the most haunting yet beautiful songs that I have ever heard. It always makes me think of a girl, a very good friend of mine, who thankfully has now found true love. |

To me, this sounds like a song that was written by a man who screwed up big time, possibly cheating on his wife, and who is begging for the chance to make things right and is struggling with all of his might to do whatever it takes to save his marriage. |

I think this song was written about someone trying to recover from someone they loved very much leaving them. Perhaps it was written as Emerson was recovering from the divorce of his first wife, the one he wrote 'If You Could Only See' about.
I do know that this song helped me through a tough divorce of my own. I listened to it dozens of times as encouragement to believe in myself and that I would recover some day. |

I think this song is definitely written as a song to a man who has stolen the woman he loves away from him. It would not at all surprise me if this was written to a man who the woman he is singing about in 'If You Could Only See' left him for. I don't know that this is the case, but the timing and comments he has made in concert lead me to believe that this is probably what inspired the song. |

As has been stated before, Emerson Hart has stated several times in concert what this song is about. I was actually at a concert at Rhythm and Brews in Chattanooga, TN when he started the song incorrectly by starting with the second verse. He stopped, apologized, and said he had never messed up the song before, but he started thinking about his mom as he began singing and that is why he got the verse wrong. He then went on to explain that he wrote this song when his mother did not approve of his pending marriage to his first wife. His mother thought that this girl was bad for him (turns out she was right) and he was trying to explain to his mom how he felt about her. |

Emerson Hart has said that he wrote this song about a couple who were very good friends of his. They came to the realization that they should divorce, and they were trying very hard to keep their split civil and respectful. Emerson wrote this song about the heartbreak they were going through as they went their separate ways. |

Having seen Emerson Hart in concert several times, I have heard him tell what this song is about. He tells a story of something that happened shortly after he moved to Nashville, TN from Los Angeles. He was in line to check out at a grocery store, and some person said 'Hey, how are you doing?'. Emerson said, 'Do you know me' and the guy said no, he was just being friendly. Emerson said that would never happen in Los Angeles and that was when he knew he had moved to the right place. This song is about how he loves living in Tennessee (or at least did when he wrote the song) and how he doesn't want to leave, even if his friends and family think he should. |

| Emerson Hart – Friend to a Stranger Lyrics

This song is absolutely haunting and beautiful. I have a good friend who I have had a long friendship with, and we have been through a lot together. She and I are both now married to other people, and she and her husband live in a different state now. This song always makes me think of her.
My interpretation of this song is something similar to what I have been through with my friend. We were friends, then at least one of us wondered if maybe we should be more than friends, then we didn't talk for awhile due to the emotions revealed when one of us told the other about our thoughts and feelings. Now, these friends are separated by distance and time and neither of them could have ever forseen where time would have taken them. However, there is still a deep bond between the two that will always exist regardless of where they are and what their lives have in store for them.
Just my interpretation, of course. |
