HIM – Behind the Crimson Door Lyrics 16 years ago
Love is a simple cycle, just as the seasons are. You find love and it feels great for a while. Once that hype is gone it feels king of boring and Love gives you two choices: Find something to give a rebirth feeling to it, or get into a fight that either makes it or breaks it.
This song made me think of the cycle of love. I've come to believe that the crimson door is a metaphor of forbidden, unnatural love. The seasons in this song represent the cycles of love. Spring being the newfound love feeling, Summer being the 'Hype but getting boring' feeling, Fall being the dreadful, in need of rebirth feeling, and Winter being the make it or break it decision.

My lyrical interpretation is simply put. A relationship is going downhill and they're blaming one another for the causes of it. During this they tell each other the darkest thoughts they have about this crumbling relationship in their hands. After what has been said, they begin to hope for their love to last as they find a metaphoric haven to give their love a second chance. This haven would be the Crimson Door. Instead of following the love cycle, they become obsessed with the feelings of lust and love within this haven and forget about the love cycle entirely. This makes the relationship unrealistic and unfeeling, having them hide behind the delusion that there is still love when, in truth, there isn't. Angels could be a symbol of their conscience realizing this love isn't true (sorrow). The slaves could be the bodies ignoring the conscience and simply "living in the moment." As an inference, the love is probably realized as nothing but a mere dream, and it breaks off.

HIM – Sleepwalking Past Hope Lyrics 16 years ago
My interpretation of this song was similar to Rose131's.

Two lovers in a quarreling relationship find that their love is bittersweet. The man in this relationship is telling his side of the story by saying that he's doubting her love, so he hides the key to his heart (metaphorically speaking) and acts tough. That way, even through all of the quarrels, behind that tough exterior he's delirious with thoughts of his own love for her that even the worst moments are considered the sweetest. Lust and War are referring to the best and worst moments of this horrid relationship. No matter the circumstances, everything was considered something else to start a fight on. Love stopped being a part of the relationship a long time ago. We see that hope of this love returning is fading away.
In the chorus, he's beginning to feel as if Love itself is against him entirely for this relationship. Despair and Love, depicted as if two actual characters rather than feelings, block his ability to have hope of ever having her love once more. Therefore, he feels that his heart no longer feels the same and begins to have doubt of his so called love and hope. Love and despair within their relationship was similar to a war. There are times of fighting, and times of peace. Even then, there were breakdowns and weeping of what their love has become. As their world comes crashing down they feel once more like their relationship is a lost cause.
In the next verse, he has given up and just embraces what little he has left. He's saying no matter what, we're lost in this hopeless romanticism and all we do for each other is remind us of something we'll never again once have.
In the next part of the song, he's telling us that he has given up love, he sees no hope or reason in it. Meaning, he's feeling apathetic about the whole situation. Obviously, this means that he also gave up on the hope for love with anyone else.
His own hell in his mind is the worst there is, considering Hades only has 9 circles. He feels that he has descended to the remnants of his sanity where he once more feels that love for her. He feels that maybe even Lucifer himself has taken over and has ripped his hope and love apart. It doesn't matter to him where he is because in the lasting remnants of his sanity, he still feels hope and love and crawls under "Lucifer's claws" just to give her one last kiss. Meaning, he doesn't care how bad it gets, he still loves her and hopes for her love in return..

HIM – And Love Said No Lyrics 16 years ago
Personally I see this song in the form of Love playing a cruel joke on a person who's deeply in love with someone he/she can't exactly have.

The first verse is explaining the layout of the story (we'll go with a male for now as the hopeless romantic). He has finally found his match, but sadly for reasons unknown he can't have her. "Love lies cruel" means that he feels like Love has pulled a nasty joke on his heart, making him feel the way he does for this other person. He realized over time that there was no hope of this love happening. Maybe they were together before, who knows.

The chorus then explains that since he can't have the person he yearns for, he feels that Love will become the death of him. He pleads for death but he simply can't bring himself to it. He doesn't feel right on this earth, and would prefer to die than go on feeling the way he does.

The second verse shows that apathy is settling in. Since he has no hope, the love he had for this person is buried deep in his heart which he refers to as an icy tomb. No love, no reason to have a kind, caring heart. Love had made this person notice him as another cruel joke (Love's violent tune, from me to you..), but without that kind, loving heart inside of him, there's no reason to feel love for him so this person gives up on that thought.

In the end where it goes, "Love's light blue took me from you, and at that moment I knew that I was out of hope again," I believe that this is portraying the end of a tragedy. The man has become apathetic in his loss of hope for love, and the person he yearned for walked away without a second thought. He feels that love returning upon realizing that she walked away, but it's too late and there's no longer hope for that love.

I might be wrong, but that is what I pulled from the lyrics and I can strongly relate to this.
