| Amen! I'm with you on that, music like this deserves to be paid more attention too. But not many care to get meaning out of songs, unfortunately. I enjoyed the excerpt, thank you kindly for enlightening me with it. | |

| Bravo! The end repeat of the chorus, no doubt, has a strong latent meaning. This song is most definitely about the speaker's (or us in general's) relationship with Our Savior. Terrific song! How sad that people cannot see that and want to pass it off for something less meaningful. | |

@Josa It is true that Christian artists sing about other things and relationships but a lot of times songs they have made to be talking about God gets misinterpreted for a boy-girl relationship. And I find that quite devastating, because they miss the deeper, much more profound, meaning behind it. If you want to make a conclusion about what the song is actually talking about, then the best thing to do is look way deeper into it than you normally would with any other song. And also look for interviews with the artists that contain an explanation of the meaning of their songs. Listenin.org is a great resource for that. You may be surprised to find out what the songs they sing are actually about. Because just assuming the song is about the some boy and girl fling, can be real insulting to the artists who deviate from the norm to actually work on making things much more profound and meaningful! And to those who don't care for the same old shallow crap that is forced on us everywhere we go. Take this instance that the lead singer of Anberlin recounted about his song (The Symphony of) Blasé: "With our last album, I'd get emails from fans about the song "Symphony of Blasé" and people would say, 'I just broke up with my girlfriend and that song helped me through it.' And I'd be like, 'It wasn't a break up song at all. It was about alcoholism.' I mean, these songs aren't about the basic pop, 'Ooh girl. I love you.' They're much deeper than that." This particular song wasn't speaking about God or Jesus but it's a perfect example of how readily people are to assume that any song they hear is about some romantic relationship. Ugh! |

I interpret this song quite differently. Though I do agree that this song is talking about breaking down someone's fantasy life or misconceptions. I believe its about someone who shares the Truth and now that person's view is changing or trying to hold the fragments of what they thought life was about. And you try so hard to fight the feelings you dwell on When all you should do is die to yourself These lyrics are meant to encourage that person to step out of their old life and into a new one. "die to yourself" simply means exactly what it states-just not literally. Pretty much that person needs to continually walk in his or her new life. Out with the old and in with the new. |

I agree with itslittlejohn. As well, at this part: I will not let it go to waste I'm takin' all I got, I'm leaving this place And I will not let it go to waste I'm takin' all I got, I'm leaving this place Man, I will not be taking up space I'll take my best shot, I'm picking up the pace and He is, on his own strength, trying to pick up the pieces and make it out. After such a declaration, he just falls apart again. Hence the "and", then repeat of the chorus. I did not notice that at first. At first, I thought it was positive that he was going to go and do something about it. Now that I think about it, it isn't. We can't rely on our own strength to get us out of our deep puddles. We need to give it all to God otherwise we just fall apart and everything around us does too. I know this all to well from my own experiences.. I just try and try to do it by myself and I always fail. |

Perfect! I agree completely!! Thanks for this meaningful post. Also, "if you say this has nothing to do with the devil then ,why would a christian say this against a friend or enemy" that is a very good point and I respect you for pointing that out. I knew immediately, when I paid attention to the lyrics of this song, what it was talking about. Red is so unique with their lyrics and how their songs can bring to light our deepest struggles and emotions and then leaves us with peace. Then they have songs like this one and Wasting Time that just get us pumped and face the devil with the assurance that our Lord prevails over such wickedness! Yes, all glory be to God!! |
