| Elliott Smith – I Didn't Understand Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Rated 0 There's nothing here that you'll miss I can guarantee you this Is a cloud of smoke Trying to occupy space What a fucking joke What a fucking joke [this says a lot about Elliott Smiths self-esteem] |

| Elliott Smith – I Didn't Understand Lyrics | 16 years ago |
There's nothing here that you'll miss I can guarantee you this Is a cloud of smoke Trying to occupy space What a fucking joke What a fucking joke I waited for a bus to separate the both of us -- the catching of a bus is obivouslly Elliott killing himself... And take me off far away from you Because my feelings never change a bit I always feel like shit I don't know why, I guess that I "just do" You once talked to me about love And you painted pictures of a Never-Never Land And I could've gone to that place But I didn't understand <<< amazing |
| Elliott Smith – I Didn't Understand Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Very true, Fiend. | |
| Elliott Smith – No Name #1 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Actually social isolation comes out in a lot of the songs he wrote. | |
| Elliott Smith – Waltz #1 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Going through every out[change to "hour"] I used to Cope to make the repetition stop What was I supposed to say? Now I never leave my zone [comfort zone, obviously] We're both alone, I'm going home I wish I'd never seen your face [these last few lines get sadder and sadder with each passing line] |
| Elliott Smith – Pitseleh Lyrics | 16 years ago |
A silent kid is looking down the barrel To make the noise that I kept so quiet dosn't give me the chills at all. This however:- But no one deserves it The first time I saw you I knew it would never last I'm not half what I wish I was I'm so angry, I don't think it'll ever pass And I was bad news for you, just because I never meant to hurt you {"stay the hell away from me"} |
| Elliott Smith – Waltz #2 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm never going to know you now But I'm going to love you anyhow Is about anyone you've missed an oppertunety to connect with. |

Was Elliott talking about himself here? Was he ever like this at a party? Anyway this song rather captures my feelings from a party a few nights ago. |
| Elliott Smith – Easy Way Out Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| err that should have read Elliott "DIDNT intend to convoy suicide" | |
| Elliott Smith – Easy Way Out Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I know Elliott did intend to convoy any meaning of suicide in this song, but it is about people (and him) taking the easy way out from lifes problems. Also, everything everyone else has said with regard to loosing yourself in another person and mainulative relationships that result from that are also correct. "While I watch you making mistakes I wish you luck, I really do With the problem, with the puzzle Whatever's left of you " |
| Elliott Smith – Easy Way Out Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Suicide is the ultimate easy way out from the problems of life! | |
| Elliott Smith – Easy Way Out Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| No, it's about Elliott as he saw himself. | |
| Elliott Smith – Everything Means Nothing to Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| makes sense - thanks! | |
| Elliott Smith – The Biggest Lie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Seems like it took 4 or 5 year for people to get teh suicide connection, but whatever you take out of Elliotts music is fine (with him aswell for the most part). I'm waiting for the train The subway that only goes one way ( this is one way ticket to death. Like he talks about "catching a bus" in other songs. it's a trip out of existence.) The stupid thing that will come to pull us apart (something stupid pulls relationships with the people in your life apart) And make everybody late You spent everything you had Wanted everything to stop that bad (says it all. elliott often just wanted to stop feeling.) And now I'm a crushed credit card registered to Smith Not the name that you call me with (intresting line. Elliott is not even his real name) You turned white like a saint I'm tired of dancing on a pot of gold flake paint Oh, we're so very precious, you and I And everything that you do makes me want to die (really captures the feeling of people, not drugs. It's about how whatever people do it ultimatley makes you feel like complete shit.) Oh, I just told the biggest lie I just told the biggest lie The biggest lie ^irony. |
| Elliott Smith – The Biggest Lie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
less metaphorical? Most of what Elliott did was metaphorical more metaphorical than most people give him credit for. |
| Elliott Smith – Good to Go Lyrics | 16 years ago |
you mean..in the lines " wouldn't need a hero if I wasn't such a zero If I wasn't such a zero " |
| Elliott Smith – Good to Go Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This really isn't the place for discussing it, but since we allready are:- I imagine Elliott would have preferd it this way. The fact that no one can really know for sure if he killed himself or was murderded. Although most people think one way or the other and most (myself included) tend to think of it was suicide. Someone once said to Elliott Smith that he would end up being the next Kurt Cobain (he, obivously laughed it off). Both were troubled musicians who took their own life, but both have possiblty of murder. Both could have also been driven to it by there signifcant other. Anyway from my experience of depression when your in that state of mind suicide is often seen as something that will inevitably happen. I often feel that Elliott would have felt he was destined to die young. But maybe he was murderded. |

| Elliott Smith – St. Ides Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
You see me smiling, you think it's a frown Turned upside down. << what do people think of these lines? Someone said it's about auto-assoicating someone (him) with negativity. This isn't what i get from it though. Incidentally, I never knew what St Ides was before. I see now that it's some kind of "malt" beer in the USA. Cheap by the looks of it on Wikipedia. makes more sense now. |
| Elliott Smith – St. Ides Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| ahhhh... | |
| Elliott Smith – St. Ides Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Everything is exactly right When I walk around here drunk every night With an open container from 7-11 So, did Elliott Smith wonder the streets every night with an open can of beer? |
| Elliott Smith – St. Ides Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Musically it is strong and has a lot of feeling. | |
| Elliott Smith – Coming Up Roses Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| It's a nice song, yes but this is one of Elliotts songs i don't care to read into too much. The first line is telling however. | |
| Elliott Smith – Say Yes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
How about: "I'm damaged bad at best". Just brilliant piece of witting there. So, if not a genius he was at least artistically gifted. Acctually the music often makes one feel they know Elliotts inner-world better than anything else. He was someone who saw life as something to be endured and occasionally enjoyed through music and good whiskeys. But... " Situations get fucked up and turned around sooner or later " |
| Elliott Smith – Say Yes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Nice interpretation! | |
| Elliott Smith – 2:45 AM Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I'm going out now like a baby A nave unsatisfiable baby... Here we go, these 2 lines are the focus for me in this song. Going out like a baby... says a lot about the inner state. A naive unsatisfiable baby.... the "going out" is going to be a suicide..or just stepping out a pub, naive on the world yet preputually unhappy. |
| Elliott Smith – 2:45 AM Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Most of Elliotts music = Depression / Suicide to me - you have a problem with that? | |
| Elliott Smith – 2:45 AM Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Cut it out, this is a place to discuss Elliott S music - not get into pointless arguments. think before you get into silly squabbles on the internet. |
| Elliott Smith – Angeles Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This, to me, is one of songs gives a strength of feeling very differnt to everything else. "no ones gonna fool around with us" "so glad to meet you angels" |
| Elliott Smith – Angeles Lyrics | 16 years ago |
He's not ugly dipshit. He just looked pretty bad at times due to being wrecked from drink & drugs. |
| Elliott Smith – Alameda Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Where did you get this meaning from please? | |
| Elliott Smith – Some Song (Help Me Kill My Time) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is a brilliant song. Why wasn't it included on New Moon? Anyway, amazing SongMeanings here... " How they beat you up week after week And when you grow up you're going to be a freak " Yep; The past is often someting inescapable on shaping the fucked-upness of the life to come. " Help me kill my time Because I'll never be fine Help me kill my time " Just simply brilliant. |

| Elliott Smith – Rose Parade Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Which line stands out? For me it's... "When they clean the street I'll be the only shit that's left behind." I'm sure "poor" Elliott would still be hanging around the streets when everyone else has dispersed home. |

| Elliott Smith – Between the Bars Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think prison cell bars was my original interpretation of this song, many years ago. | |
| Elliott Smith – Between the Bars Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Ahhhh..."Between the bars". !" I'll kiss you again between the bars "! - Did anyone consider that their may no SPECIFIC meaning to bars? Well, not for me anyway. But I do tend to think of this song and a relationship with alcohol. |
