I really can´t be 100% precise about the meaning of this song but there are elements that points to some sort of suicide after a murder. The confusing part (at least for me) its the sweetness of the singer´s voice wich doesnt reflect what´s going on. Early morning its a precise moment (8am) ... when the murderer sees a "lonely" sun (himself) rising ... wich is contradictory cause that´s a very beautiful and energetic moment of the day. That´s the moment in wich he´ll comit suicide. (shooting himself or jumping) ... (shotgun lying with him) Before that my guess... is that he waits the victim and force (her/him) to say things like: move me like you do... or save me like you do... wich indicates that the victim and the murderer had some sort of sentimental relatioship. I have the idea that the victim is able to escape (ran the whole way down to the tracks, through the doorway, then a last look back) but gets killed. (could it be a School or a University? ... the fields, tracks, doorway, stairs, rooftop) Finally the murderer climbs the stairways and waits for the sunrise to commit suicide. This is a terryfying song.. if you think about it. And of course there are musical elements that point to the same meaning.. for instance the constants sounds of the slide guitar are like screams of desperation, and at the minute 1:46 the song as a falling sound. |

Daniel in my opinion you are a 95% right about the song meaning, the only missing conclusion is why the third case is the worst. I believe that you are right by saying that the third kid its still suffering sexual abuse, but the important issue is that this is happening in the Church ...... and that´s the reason why the lyrics are so cryptical because the most problable organization pointed here is the Catholic Church ..... not a sect. If you see the video the priest has a catholic clothing. This makes a lot of sence nowadays when your hear that the catholic church is trying to vindicate itself by expulsing abusers and publicly condemning these horrific acts.... (not asin the past when no one talked about this issues, and abusers where covered and protected) |

I really like your analysis of the lyrics, but I think the part: "If you can hear a piano fall you can hear me coming down the hall (now he's there, and he realizes somethings up so he's running down the hall, probably screaming her name) if I could just hear your pretty voice I don't think I need to see at all (And if she would just answer him you know a 'Jack, I'm in here' he'd be okay)" has another meaning. The part " If you can hear a piano fall you can hear me coming down the hall " maybe it´s just my imagination but considering the part "Thirty notes in the mailbox will tell you that I'm coming home" feels like he is trying to give importance to this point .... and I believe he discovered that she was cheeting on him when he came home, and cought them having sex... therefore he´s saying to her that she could have been more discreet (with the hearing a piano fall part!!) ... and this was probably done on purpouse due to an old infidelity done by him. And of course the part: "if I could just hear your pretty voice I don't think I need to see at all" means that he came home because she didn´t answer the phone calls and therefore he got worried and discovered this situation by visiting her. |

Hola a todos! la verdad es que creo que las interpetaciones estan muy lejos de lo que pienso... por lo que les cuento mi interpretacion. Si bien aun no he analizado la canción por completo... el titulo luna roja me llamo de inmediato la atención como algo biblico (de hecho se menciona en el apocalipsis)asi como el cordero, leon y el desierto... pague placeres ciegos , podrian corresponder pagar por todos los pecados de los hombres sin haberlos hecho (sin haberlos vivido o visto) ... sin duda se refiere a Jesus.. La luna roja es peligrosa por que es el fin del mundo... el apocalipsis.. Que les parece? |
