Chris Tomlin – God Of Wonders Lyrics 16 years ago
I like singing this but the title line is a mis-direction. It makes it sound like God is a sort of space alien from the greater Magellenic Cloud, i.e. outside this galaxy but further up the road, some other PLACE within the universe. But He is not outside our galaxy or even our universe, He is everything and everywhere, INCLUDING but not limited to our universe, including our galaxy, including our planet, including our hearts.

Tool – Parabola Lyrics 16 years ago
I wonder if this song isn't about chocolate pudding. Let's break it down...

"We barely remember who or what came before" - we're totally lost in the wonderful taste.

"this precious moment . We are choosing to be here right now" - self-explanatory.

"hold on, stay inside" - I don't want to eat too much or I'll throw up.

"This holy reality. This holy experience," - either it means "this is heavenly" or perhaps it's about the holes the bubbles make.

"choosing to be here in This body This body holding me" - now we are switching to the consciousness perspective of the pudding itself, as it forms in the pudding bowl from the various elements.

"Be my reminder here that I am not alone in This body This body holding me" - this is just gorgeous, it's an exposition of that last point, the multiple ingredients coming together as one, it's a metaphor for the Trinity. It just makes my spine tingle.

"Feeling eternal, all this Pain is an illusion. Alive!" - the pain of being cooked in an oven to almost the point of ignition, doesn't matter now, it is an ephemeral part of the transition to oneness and wholeness, a rite of passage to destiny. Now this is life!

...

"Swirling round with this familiar parable" - spinning and tapping the (correction) PREP-BOWL, to settle the contents.

"Spinning, weaving round each new experience" - of course you change direction regularly to get out all the lumps you experience/encounter.

"Recognize this as a holy gift" - self-explanatory.

"and Celebrate this chance to be Alive and breathing" - wow! Isn't that an awesome reverse metaphor for the steam rising from the pudding as it is removed from the oven?

"This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment, remember: we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion" - I too, wish that this transcendental moment could last forever, forgetting tawdry reality, lost in communion with God's sweet love.

... So there you have it. I think it's pretty convincing. But I admit I could be wrong. For me though, chocolate couldn't just occur in a random universe, it proves God exists. Same with beer. And I think that's the point the song is making.

(Note: I am actually Christian. I do take God seriously, just not myself or others.)
