| at first i thought the words to this song were just lucid writings from a drug-induced kurt, but after reading some of the meanings, iv come to see that yes, it is about cancer! the "Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back" means that young child with cancer might wanna kill himself because of his disease, but doing that would just kill him, the same as cancer so he'd "be climbing right back" to what was gonna happen either way. | |

| true kurt did have the bipolar syndrome, and yes that could have been one of the reason's for writing this song, (how do you explain tourettes?) but i think this song is about how he is getting sick of the world around him and he does'nt care about what is going on and how he is to scared to tell anyone about it, "I'm not gonna crack", i think it's just an early warning to his future suicide and how he thinks that killing himself is the answer to escaping from this overwhelming world. | |

i think this song is about fitting in in school, and what kurt thought about it, see,where it says "Load up on guns bring your friends It's fun to lose and to pretend She's over bored and self assured Oh no, I know a dirty word" he's talking about all the crazy thing's kids do to fit in with the rest of society (which is why i am anti-government and anti-society... and atheist, it's my opinion, rant about it all you please, it's a choice just as Hinduism, Judaism, and christianity to beleive in one's self to be the higher being in their life and to not rely on another being to solve their problems) anyways, and when he say's "I'm worse at what I do best And for this gift I feel blessed Our little group has always been And always will until the end" and "And I forget just why I taste Oh yeah, I guess it makes me smile I found it hard, it was to find Oh well, whatever, nevermind" he's saying that he support's the "little groups" that think for themselves and he feels blessed that he is one of those and that he "forgets" just why he is one of them, and then he say's that he is because it makes him happy knowing that he is an individual, kurt was an individual, there was and to this day is no one like him, kurt lives within me forever. a friend told me that he just B.S.ed about 90% of this song while they were recording off the top oh his head, so i dont know, it's just my opinion. |

Okay, the beginning and most of the song is about a man who has been sentenced to death at the gallows pole and is scared, and worried that if there is no afterlife, then this is the end for him, at one point he questions god, but as you can clearly see at the end and these few verses say: "As I walk all my life drifts before me And though the end is near I'm not sorry Catch my soul cos it's willing to fly away Mark my words please believe my soul lives on Please don't worry now that I have gone I've gone beyond to see the truth When you know that your time is close at hand maybe then you'll begin to understand Life down there is just a strange illusion" he is saying that yes there is a heaven and a god and as he looks down on earth he realizes that he had no reason in being scared of dying or being sentenced to death because "life down there" is just chaos and unreasonable death. |

| wow, reading most of the negative comments cough*SOADRULES*cough, it makes me realize how stupid some people are in this world, Iron Maiden is an amazing band with many hit songs derived from poems, bibles, and even one derived from bruce dickinson's love of flying (Aces High), and in no way can any of their songs fall under the category of "satanism", or "satanic", true, the number of the beast, 666, was mentioned in the song many times, but SO WHAT??? that did come from the bible! the book of revelations! ch.13-18, that's where the little "poem" at the start of the song came from, and another thing, just cause SOADRULES might think SOAD is a better band than Iron Maiden, which in retrospect... ARE NOT!!!!, SOAD is another band i like, but i think SOME songs are just pure nonsesnse, but both System Of A Down and Steal This Album are great albums, my musical likes span from Nirvana to Metallica, from Judas Priest to Pear Jam, and so on and so forth... i like lot's of music styles, but only in rock, RAPS SUCKSSSSSS!!!! | |
