| Daphne Loves Derby – How's It Going to End? Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Watch "The Truman Show". I think a lot of the songs on this album have to do with that movie, besides the fact that like three or four song titles from the album are direct quotes from that movie. |

| Spoon – Out Go The Lights Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I love this song so much. A few corrections from the booklet: - [The call for] wind and rain was right - Then out [went] the lights - You [were] the one-two punch from Illinois - I [can't hear] for the noise - That window breaks at the [bump] - [Knows you] when you're down or kicked - Never see that [kind of poise] - You [were] the one-two punch Seriously though, sometimes I think that Spoon doesn't give their lyrics to their label, and the company might even have interpreted them. Personally I think that "breaks at the bone" sounds better and fits better. Same with "out with the lights" and "woos you when you're down or kicked" and most of the other ones. I love how in the end of the song there's that strange clanking and grinding. It always reminds me of like a reactor shutting down or a power plant failing or something. It's great. It really makes the song feel like it's breaking down and dying in the end. :) Cheers. |

| Spoon – The Mystery Zone Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song is fucking amazing. The way Spoon uses their instruments is amazing, I swear they limit themselves to only 2 instruments at a time for most of every song. Its really lightweight music that has a lot of empty space, and seems to make the songs seem really surreal but perfect. |

| Iron & Wine – Innocent Bones Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This song is absolutely one of my favorites on The Shepherd's Dog, probably right after Pagan Angel and a Borrowed Car and Boy With A Coin. When I hear this song it sounds honestly kind of menacing/scorning or sarcastic in a way. The song contrasts Cains actions to those of Abel (Although the examples in the song are not in any way related to those in the Bible). The comparisons show Cain as being very complex and stubborn (his lines are very long and descriptive, while Abel's are only a few words). While Cain is bartering over a lame mule, Abel is getting a phone. When Cain gets a knife (he's stressing over Abel's actions, wanting to kill him), Abel is chilling out and buying herb. When Adam is praying, Cain is distracted by a brawl with two cats, while Abel focuses on his father's prayer. Albeit those lines might not be intended for literal interpretation, they make sense like that, portraying Cain as morally lacking and Abel being a better more virtuous person. This song also mentions: - And even the last of the blue-eyed babies know - And even the last of the brown-eyed babies see - And even the last of the black-eyed babies say While there have been many posts indicating how the eye color changes from blue to brown to black (which I personally see as degrading from more innocent to less innocent), the ending of each sentence hasn't been brought up yet. It changes from know to see to say. To me this represents: knowing (instinct, having faith) seeing (only observing, then remembering what you saw, doesn't require faith) and saying (Just repeating what you have seen or heard, doesn't require observation or faith). as degrading, just like the eye color idea. By the way I only say "degrading" because the color becomes darker, I don't have a problem with brown eyes :). Overall this song is amazing and Sam's voice really sounds amazing in the song! Viva la vida de Iron & Wine! -Bryan |

| Iron & Wine – Biting Your Tail Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I just caught a few missed words on a live performance, The word that's inaudible in the studio recording is: Both the (egg) and the red fox grinning And also instead of "someday all face worth slapping" It's: Someday well all make a face worth slapping Thanks for the lyrics, as different as this song is from the rest of Sams stuff it's still great and deserves some comments! |

| Explosions in the Sky – Remember Me as a Time of Day Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Look at the album cover of "Goodbye Gravity, Welcome Change" by The Morning Of while listening to this. I don't know why I associate the image with the song so much. This song just reminds me of some beautiful distant place. This song almost has a theme of isolation starting out as a sad thing, then building into extreme happiness because of peace. http://img.maniadb.com/images/album/186/186768_2_f.jpg |

| Silversun Pickups – The Fuzz Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love the way the song builds into that amazing guitar & bass piece. The song is amazing but for whatever reason I think of the fuzz like the police and I get Kevin James' image stuck in my head from mall cop haha | |
| Modest Mouse – Bankrupt on Selling Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I love this song and how for some reason it reminds me of Deadliest Catch. I don't know why, maybe the guitar sounds like a sailor's song. | |
| Smash Mouth – Stoned Lyrics | 15 years ago |

AMAZING song. Instead of "I'm gettin' stoned and what's wrong with that The [president] seems to be just fine" I hear "I'm gettin' stoned and what's wrong with that The [present tense] seems to be just fine" Like he's saying it's not that bad to just sit back and enjoy the moment (when you're faded). |

| Band of Horses – The Great Salt Lake Lyrics | 15 years ago |

| Band of Horses – Our Swords Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| And I don't think it has anything to do with drugs, even if that fits. Drugs don't always tear you apart. | |
| Band of Horses – Our Swords Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I think foulness spilling from your face means that he is disgusted at the words someone speaks, like he things they are full of shit to the point it's spilling out, but foulness also meaning words. | |
| Brand New – At the Bottom Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Hence the album cover... I think the album "Daisy" was named after maybe a pet dog that died or ran away. I know one of the scariest thoughts was when my pet died I was scared that it would keep living in my dreams. Maybe this song is the sum of the album. I think when he talks about "And there's a lake, at the bottom you'll find all my friends" he is talking about the classic "Your dog ran away when you were at summer camp" where at summer camp where there is usually a lake. Another hint is "and I'll carry this box to the proper place" maybe he was referring literally to a box (sadly what you usually bury a pet in) "Well i'd serve you drugs on a silver plate if i thought it might help you get away" refers to either the drug used to put pets down or the drug that might be used to cure leukemia or such. I know that one of the most creepy things if this is what the song is about is that sometimes you cry harder when a pet dies then when a relative does. Daisy ran away. |

| Blink-182 – Adam's Song Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I'm pretty sure that this song was written after some kid sent a suicide letter to blink-182. The part where mark says "I traced the cord back to the wall No wonder it was never plugged in at all" was about when they were rehearsing, mark's guitar stopped working. When he traced the cord, there was a huge fray in the wire and the internal wiring was sitting in a puddle of water. Apparently he would have been electrocuted but his amp was never plugged in. As for the video I loved it... |
