Congrats on being the worst song ever written, it's so bad it's funny.I thought it was a joke when I first heard it. |

yeah freeofkings is right it's St Peter not Thomas at the gates in heaven. Thomas was the doubter, it's where we get the phrase "Doubting Thomas" from. freeofkings has it right. |

| Everclear – Jesus Was A Democrat Lyrics

Such an epic song, I guess it's basically a bit of a stab at religious hypocrites, the ones on telly and everywhere, the false fakery of the religion that politicians cling to etc.
I love the lines:
"If Jesus was alive today he would be sad to see
That it is no different than it used to be"
harking back to the false hypocritical prophets Jesus encountered.

I can't believe there are no comments on this song.
It may be simple and a little bit cheesy, but it's definitely catchy, and so feel-good. :)
Such a good sing-a-long anthemic summer tune.

it's definitely "calling" according to the Switzerland lyric booklet, one might be "call it" who knows I didn't go through it thoroughly. |

At Reading Festival 2010 they said it was about British Music Festivals and that they regretted not having played one in a such a long time. "Pissing in plastic cups" sure as hell reminds me of Reading fest, lol. |

When a band can put the phrase "non-organic excavator" into a song, you know they are geniuses. :D |

| Weezer – The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn) Lyrics

One thing that for some reason really bugs me every time I listen to this song is the line "Somebody said all the world's a stage, And each of us is a player"
Surely everyone knows that Shakespeare said that. Not "Somebody" ah well perhaps they thought it sounded better. :p
Brilliant song otherwise. |

I think you were confused by the comment, faebyl was commenting on the idea that the song was written by Natasha Khan about Tahiti Pehrson, an artist. |

There's also another quote from American Beauty somewhere in the middle or near the end, I forget where exactly. It's Ricky's line "If I had to go to New York tonight. To Live. Would you come with me?"
Great movie, and good song too. |

The reggae song which is smapled is a fantastic tune in it's own right, whenever this song comes on I always find myself singing the rest of the words to the full song, lol.
That said, this Prodigy song is a good tune, and pretty immense live. |

Originally by Toots and the Maytals, and previously covered by The Specials, this is undeniably a kick ass version.
I'm still undecided whether or not it beats the original or the Specials cover... |

I've always wondered where they are referring to with the title? Do they mean Brixton London? I'm guessing they've played the Brixton Academy a few times, so they'd have been there. Or is their a US Brixton i'm not aware of? |

I can see hoe it can be looked on as a drug influenced song, but to be honest I agree with skaboss it has always stood out to me as more of a carpe diem idea, I look at it as a postive energy filled song of awesome :D |

you're being slightly hypocritical, yes it can mean what you have stated. But for a secular audience it could mean any number of things. Meaning is subjective. |

I can't stress how un-emo Switchfoot are, sheesh. Sure they have some ballads every now and then. But Company Car is like one of the must non-emo songs ever.
If you want emo, listen to The Used or something depressing like that, the majority of Switchfoot songs are rather uplifting. :) |

Switchfoot are incredibly versatile band, that is what makes them so great. Every album is refreshing and different. It would be real stupid to judge them on one song. It would be like judging Da Vinci entirely based on one of his little sketches. :P |

| Switchfoot – Ode To Chin Lyrics

I think it's less him telling her, and more her telling him. It's like he's reciting what he has learnt from his mum. The chorus seems like some solid matter of fact motherly advice. :)
But hey it can be read any way you like, the Chin angle works rather well too. |

SuitBoy is right, the song was heavily inspired by the bands experiences in Liverpool, namely Toxteth.
Of course it can be easily applied to many areas of Britain during the time.
Steller tune. |
