All Shall Perish fervently uses political and social themes to write their lyrics about, and - although they can be understood as odes about past revolutions - I deeply believe that they are telling us something about the present, the event taking place in our OWN time, and about the possible outcomes in the near future. Just look around you, being a citizen anywhere, and even more if you're from America: the fascist dictatorship, the police state is being built up right in front of our eyes, the system is becoming very oppressive, controlling the freedom of people in the sickest ways possible. The present monetary system is designed to turn people into debt slaves. Legislation is corrupted to its core, serving the purpose of those who are wealthy enough to influence them. But all this done in small steps, like with the frog that got boiled in water because the temperature rose just a little every time. To me, the song describes an individual who suddenly realized there is a hierarchy being built up which was hidden from his eyes, but now he sees, and understands that it aims for the total control and manipulation of the population, taking away all of freedom. Also, he realizes that it's been prepared for a long time, but it's NEVER too late to take heed and stand up for himself, for his rights. And yes, WE have to take a stand, we have to end the system that we allowed to oppress us for centuries. I think anyone who reads between the lines of ASP songs, understands this. It's important above all to educate yourself, have high level of awareness and always keep an *open mind*. If you are one being interested in such lyrics (and music), consider listening & reading Scar Symmetry, The HAARP Machine, Hierosonic, The Faceless, Aurora, Aristeia, House Vs Hurricane, As Blood Runs Black, Born Of Osiris, to mention a few. What if it's about love itself? I understand that the major theme of the whole album is war/politics/human morality, but the line ''If you love me, won't you let me know?'' and ''If you love me, why'd you let me go?'' are making me think of a love affair in which both people love each other, but due to certain difficulties and circumstances, one of them can't take a step forth in the relationship, and the other asks the silent one why doesn't she/he let him/her know how does she/he feel. ''Clearly I remember From the windows they were watching While we froze down below'' Kind of situation when the ice can't be broken (or only hardly), and the people around in their lifes are just watching with regret, but without helping them (''From the windows''), as they are struggling for each other (''froze down below'') ''I took my love down to Violet Hill There we sat in snow All that time she was silent still'' He (the man, I guess) took her to a violet hill, where they spent some time together, but she (his girlfriend maybe) was dead silent, didn't utter a word, kind of awkward and sad moment. The fact that the hill was covered with snow, and they were sitting in it, might symbolize the frozen words, untold emotions, stuck-in feelings. However, I am aware of that it totally doesn't fit into the concept of Viva La Vida, but still I think that - if not the whole album, but some pieces of it - is also about something else, not only war. |

I think this song means starting a new way of life, leaving behind the repetative, leads-to-nothing past. I also fel that this song is about a love, relationship to be created right now. You have to reach happiness ('channel bliss'), whatever it takes. The way you do it is your decision, it doesn't matter, only the goal is important, to adopt to each other as much as possible. Because being together, being united is a great feeling! The achievement of bliss must be the only thing that counts now, nothing else. I interpret this as a love song because it just happened to me that I realized: the girl I can be happy with was in front of me, was in my close sight ALL the time, while I ignored her. But I cannot do this anymore; I came to understand that SHE is the one, and her intention towards me was right from the beginning. ('It started as a whisper, now try to dodge this roar')I have to REROUTE, take new ways, if I want to REMAIN, reach the true happiness. 'Never want to look back in greed can I please have you attention?' - something like 'Hey! Notice me! I'm here! For you!' (or, if you want to tell it in In Flames-style: 'Take this life!' :) If you take this opportunity, you can experience greater things you've ever seen, and be as happy as never before! 'There are mountains to cross for all that are willing': it's all your decision, nothing can stop you from it, only yourself. The ultimate chance is yours; but the sond advises to take this new path... because it is worth!! |
