| Sufjan Stevens – Chicago Lyrics | 12 years ago |

you had me until the whole god part Geat analysis until that point The bifurcation: There's a cognizance of his internal emptiness in saying 'you had to find it.' He's admitting his issues through self-reflection, even if the issue was not evident from the start. There's maturity in that. |

| Awolnation – Sail Lyrics | 14 years ago |
| I understand that the most common disease associated with "ADD" is Attention Deficit Disorder, which has been repeatedly referenced in these comments, but there is also a disease recognized by the American Psychiatric Association called "Amphetamine Delusion Disorder," which would suit the song better. This illness results from long-term use of amphetamines and is characterized by delusions. | |
| Moby – Dream About Me Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Contrary to what has been previously posted, I believe this is about a couple who has lost the spark in their relationship, and now they're just stuck together with no purpose or reason, primarily for comfort. The quiescence of their relationship has forced them to dream of what they once had (when they fell in love), or wish they could have currently. "Oh, dream about me Lie on the phone to me" They tell each other to dream about each other, and when they speak on the phone they likely say "I love you," but they know that neither is a reality. "Just dream about colour fills our lives. Just dream about someone else tonight" They're essentially telling each other to just dream of another reality, with different people surrounding them to make them happy because they are not able to. "Tell me no truth if it hurts bad. There's enough in my life, to make me so sad" They don't want to admit to each other so they both acquiesce with the situation. The sadness is brought by the reality of their relationship. |

| CocoRosie – R.I.P. Burn Face Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Before the main verse begins, and throughout the song, you can hear the singer murmur seemingly unintelligible words, but they are indeed just lyrics in Farsi, the Persian language. I've included the translations in parentheses along with the lyrics where they are found in the song. (If we laugh, this laughter is a because I have stopped crying... I don't have tears anymore.) Baby girl don't cry Mama scared the boy who had cloud sigh And it will glimmer life's so alive (I swear to God I don't see my family anymore) She's got no reservations and got no place to be The graveyard's in the backyard where the meadow used to be Lord knows my destination Lord hears my inner prayer One will find me by the river Soaking with her party balloons (There is nothing that is left for me to do for her...) Flowers for the ones you loved Flowers for the lost I'd see (...I guess I just have to be alone) Flowers for the ones you loved Flowers for the lost I'd see Flowers for the ones you loved Flowers for the lost I'd see Flowers for the ones you loved Flowers for the lost I'd see (I will never see my family... There is nothing that is left for me to do for her...) I can't believe I just realized this after listening to the song, it really adds a cool element to it. For reference, the ellipses indicate that the words were truly untranslatable due to the volume of the instrumental track. |

| Desaparecidos – What's New for Fall Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This song, like every song on the CD, mocks a certain aspect of life; however, I feel there is a dual meaning here. These "fashion trends" are not only actual fads that people fall into, but they are also the ever-changing sources of happiness and problems in a relationship. In this sense, I feel that when the trend is pursued, it will indubitably end with a feeling of apathy or disgust, even though the person (or couple) is so intent on following this pursuit. These trends are constantly different, and in the same way, so are the explorations of couples. | |
| Desaparecidos – Man and Wife, the Former (Financial Planning) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Unlike ApatheticAllison, I do not feel the song goes past the sarcasm. It mocks the formalities of life and the expectations of growing up. It also brings to light the vulnerability of young couples as they try to make their way through society's tribulations. Beautiful, nonetheless. |

| Ra Ra Riot – Dying Is Fine Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I feel that 'dying,' in this sense, means living although they are obviously opposite of each other, i feel 'dying' means the 'process' of living so when he says 'living dying' he really is saying 'living simply to live' and the reference to 'scientific analyzing' is the way in which people try to make sense of life (be it scientifically, or otherwise--which there is no definite answer); and thus, I think, ra ra riot has taken the road e.e. cummings took, and realized there is no true answer to the reason of existence. Therefore, death is too sacred for us to comprehend- that's why 'i wouldn't like death, even if death were good'... because it's far beyond the comprehension of us today, and we are not able to understand death's purpose (besides taking a body from the earth). |
