Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm kind of from the camp that thinks this song is about Albert Camus' book 'The Stranger' (I don't know if anyone else has brought that up or not, but I'm not sifting through 35 pages of text to find out). You'd have to read the book to get it, but there are a lot of lines that correspond with the book: "doesn't really matter to me"/"as if nothing really matters" is basically the main character's philosophy "mama, just shot a man" because he does, and his mom is kind of an important element in the beginning, "Thunderbolt and lightning, Very, very frightening me" could describe the beach scene when he shoots the Arab, "he's just a poor boy from poor family, spare him his life from this monstrosity" could be the court scene and then at the end he decides that "nothing really matters." I wasn't a huge fan of the book, but it got a little bit awesomer when my best friend told me that this song might have been written about it. I could be totally wrong. Just my opinion.

John Mellencamp – Pink Houses Lyrics 16 years ago
When Mellencamp came out on stage at the Obama Inaugural concert & strummed the opening chords of this song, I was on my feet dancing in my living room...bliss!

SR-71 – Alive Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't really have anything to contribute.. I just wanted to say that I love this song to itty bitty pieces <3 SR-71 is one of my favorite bands, and this is one of their best songs IMO. One of the things I love about it is that the meaning is so clear; you just have to listen to the lyrics. They're so poignant and powerful. And this bit: "She can still feel the touch of his hand / Not just the violence, but the warmth of her man" literally gives me goosebumps.

I don't even know why this one's up here, since the meaning is pretty damn obvious.

Oren Lavie – Her Morning Elegance Lyrics 16 years ago
My opinion of this song kind of similar to what Ximena and saintannstrack said, if you'll allow me to part with the doom and gloom interpretations for a moment.

I think the song is about a daydreamer: maybe an artist (I think you could infer that from the colorful imagery and mentions of things like "the cello in the case"). She is "fighting for her life" in that she is trying not to be pulled down by how mundane and unremarkable real life is. She wants to live in her bright fantasy world. Then again, that kind of describes me, so I may just be imposing my own feelings on the song. But hey, that's what art is for, isn't it?

Love this song whatever it means <33
