Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't think it's about betrayal, but regret. He's not saying he was wronged. But he is bitter, obviously. I think this,

All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll be

means he's not just dwelling on "her" but on all the bad love in his life, whether it was family, friends, lovers, whatever. I always took that to mean he was at fault for the break (or at least his previous experiences were), and he hoped the best for her, but still wished it could be with him.

Then again, he probably lacks specifics for a reason. You don't need them. It can mean whatever you take it as.

Bad Religion – Incomplete Lyrics 16 years ago
I think it's saying sex is human nature, and what could be purer than what we're born to do? Every species only goal is to propagate itself. That's as pure as it gets... Purer than spiritual nonsense.

Cake – Friend Is A Four Letter Word Lyrics 16 years ago
I think "when I'm fishing for the words" needs to be finished with
"i am wishing you would say to me,
i'm really only praying
that the words you'll soon be saying
might betray the way you feel about me" to make sense.
This is because he's fishing for what he wishes SHE would say, meaning he doesn't even know what he wants from her anymore. Then he decides he really just wants to know how she feels about him. But maybe that's just me projecting onto the song..

The Roots – Criminal Lyrics 16 years ago
"[Black people are] subjected to having to hustle and getting illegal money."

What a cop out. I am a white person who grew up in poverty around people who were in various downward spirals (hustling, addiction, general apathy for life.) So I don't have the experience of being black, but I've befriended several black people who use the systems resources (food stamps, social security, etc.) while also benefiting from illegal money. Then they still want to complain about "the struggle" when they're not actually struggling. It's laziness at that point. Get up and go find the resources that ARE THERE to help you get out of the situation (financial aid for school, shelters, welfare.) It is harder work than just complaining. It's all in the mindset. If you feel like the white man has you down, they you'll be down. I don't put anyone down because of their race, but because of their actions.

I'm stereotyping a bit, but it was in response to a stereotype.
